Youthful Thursday

Max is a Princess, but, she wants to be a detective (I know, I so relate… okay, maybe not so much). She’s nearly turning 10, and when each Princess turns ten they meet their fairy godmother and receive a very special gift. She’s given the powers of every princess in the universe. But, she doesn’t want to be a Royal, she wants to detect. Like Sherlock, like Miss Marple.

Luckily for her (not so luckily for her baby brother) he’s kidnapped, and Max is on the case!

It was such a fun book to read (even for me, an adult), and I have no doubt that young girls would love it even more (or boys).

On her quest, she gains a goth fairy godmother (naturally) and a magical steed who gives her nothing but lip. She makes friends with a variety of mythical creatures and is reminded that sometimes listening to your parents is the best idea. Along the way she learns all of the usual Princess lessons along with one more: you don’t ever have to be just one thing. You can be *everything*. This one is perfect for when you can’t face one more Disney Princess story but your small one won’t tolerate anything else.
