Marble / Stone / Odell Megawheat Double IPA (Picked up at Trader Joe’s). A 3 of 4. How surprising - another big, good collaboration DIPA from Stone. Lots of citrus and candy-fruit sweetness in the nose and some faint herbal qualities. Lots of juicy citrus up front alongside quite a bit of wheat presence. A bit oily on the palate in the finish, and aggressively bitter. Worth trying if you are a fan of wheat IPAs - this features it prominently in a big, aggressive package.

I’m not sold on the idea of NE IPA, but I do like the recent trend of adding wheat to everything. When I was coming up, wheat was not cool. Wheat beers were for summer barbecues and Bavarian cosplay only. But when added to a willowy IPA, a helping of wheat can fluff it up a little. 

After devouring Lagunitas’ Doppel Weizen, I was excited to see Megawheat on the shelf. Stone, Odell, Marble -- these are respected names. I was expecting great things. What I got was a rehash of a tired double IPA with just a little more head on it. Whatever C-hops they used for bittering completely dominated the more delicate Motueka, Mosaic, and Mandarina Bavaria. And the sharp bitterness cut through any softness the wheat might have added. Megawheat was just mega-muddled.

ストーン他2つのブルワリーがコラボレーションした、なんだか横浜のスラッシュゾーンで出てそうな、メタルっぽいボトルデザインのビール。モトエイカー、モザイク、マンダリナバーバリアの3つの「M」を頭文字に持つホップを使っており、アロマは少々スパイシーな印象。飲むと比較的グラッシーなホップフレーバーが感じられ、その印象のすぐあとにジューシーなテイストも強く感じられる。ABV8.4％とかなりきつめだがアルコール感はあまりない。小麦を使用しているためかたいへんボディは軽く感じられ、危険。クリアなアピアランスで、キレキレ。いやー、やっぱストーンのダブルIPAっつったらこういう味だよね、という納得の味。とても美味しい。

1月23日に販売開始され、90日以内に飲むことが推奨されている。
