Dastan-i-Delhi, The Forgotten Masjid
It was a hot summer morning in the Delhi and campaign Angad Singh was in the middle of a busy road staring at the Google maps trying to find the place Mehrauli Archaeological park in Mehrauli and a bit about Mehrauli. Mehrauli is one of the seven ancient cities that make up the present state of Delhi. It is the only area in Delhi known for 1,000 years of continuous occupation. I will not get into the history part because who likes reading history neither do I like telling about that. Let's get back to the story, so it was my idea to go to Mehrauli archaeological park because it had around 70 monuments some protected and some unprotected. It was our first time exploring Mehrauli so we didn't know much about the place. And after a couple of minutes of entering the area, I saw a pond kinda thing covered in algae there were two turns in front of us one following the main road and the other going towards an Old Jain Temple which was around 100 years old. We stood there on the side of the main road to check the maps to find an attraction to go to. So my friend said me to take a turn but I doubted in my mind that is he correct about the directions. But looking at his confidence I started to follow him like an obedient child. After 3 minutes of taking the road, we didn't see the park but we travelled a bit further you wouldn't believe what we saw!! It was an old big structure!! This big structure existed for both of us and we both decided to give it a shot. And as I entered the complex I saw I huge staircase made fully of stone attached to the entrance of the mosque.
The entrance was made of white stone and carved with spaces to light candles to provide a source of light. It also had a balcony kinda thing immersing out of the entrance. Which was so beautifully carved that I doubt that any artist will not be able to do carved to date.
You can see that each of the single stones in the balcony is so precisely carved and each of the stones is so perfectly cut that it is difficult to find a single mistake there. Does this surprise you to wait until I tell you about the rest of the masjid? I pushed the door of the masjid entrance and it opened with a squeshi sound like that of an old door opening. It was a big room adjoining the masjid, it had a staircase so thin that I was almost able to fit in it.
I could surely tell that people haven't been here for some time because of the plants growing in the middle of the stairs. As we climbed the stairs we were greeted by the panoramic view of the masjid on the south and Qutub Minar on the west
As I entered the courtyard of the masjid my eyes were caught by the main structure of the masjid which had a gorgeous line of blue stone.
As I went forward and peeked from one window of the main structure I saw a garden called the Aam Bagh(Mango Garden)
Following the walls of the masjid and experiencing the aurora I came across another staircase which lead me to the top of the main structure.
As we were heading to the exit of the masjid I had no regrets about taking the wrong turn. I was delighted that I took the wrong turn. With this, I complete my first blog. I would appreciate it if you will give me feedback about the blog.
