I have officially started my undergrad thesis research on the occupancy of bee nests in areas with differing levels of urbanization, and that includes cutting open hundreds of these tubes!! the little beans are (hopefully) live bee cocoons that are currently dormant, the brown bits are bee shit, and I hope to god that larva is a bee but we can't prove it so he's quarantined. yay!!!

honey bees are INVASIVE in north america!

i keep seeing a lot of misinformation and it hurts my soul. :( keeping native wildflowers is good for native pollinators to your area, and if you live in north america (or many other parts of the world) honeybees are non-native, invasive, and harmful to native pollinators.

honeybees are generally brought in for large-scale agriculture - mainly monocultures where native pollinators are unable to complete pollination for many reasons.

honeybee hive collapse is so common in north america because they are not meant to live here - our environs do not permit good quality of life for them (esp in the north)

saving pollinators is so important but i want to cry when i see a canadian or american posting about saving the honeybees because they are honestly so harmful to our native bees and other pollinators it makes me want to cry :( also fuck cheerios for being one of the worst misinformation spreaders btw

TLDR: honeybees are invasive in many areas around the world and are brought to those areas as part of the agricultural system, especially in unhealthy monoculture farms

A beehive in Montesano has been the subject of much attention today due to containing a sentient speaking bee referring to himself as King Buzzo. He also keeps calling the hive his “honey bucket”.
