Melted Ice AU - Part 4
Pacing in front of the infirmary, Robin looked at the door and ran a hand through his hair, before resuming his pacing. A mission gone wrong and Kid Flash injured, not a good situation nor one Robin wanted. The team was breaking into the base of some wanna-be-villain-guy, who had too much time on his hand, to have created some Serum with unknown effects but was dangerous for Metas, and were getting some info on him and the serum, but ended with them caught and having to fight their way out, leading to Kid Flash’s injury and getting injected with the serum. The door opened and Batman stepped out, making Robin stop and face him expectantly. “Can I…” Robin trailed off. He was answered with a grunt from Batman, who then left him standing before the door alone. He could finally go in and see KF, but nonetheless he hesitated, before shacking his head and letting the anticipation fill him.
Stepping inside the infirmary, Robin took in the room, spotting Kid Flash on the other side of the room, laying in a bed looking positively bored. Noticing the bird’s entrance, the speedster sat up and excitedly waved him over. Robin chuckled and walked over, while taking his mask of, revealing the blue eyes of Dick Grayson. “You sure made us worry, Kid Idiot.” Wally rolled his eyes and relaxed into the pillow. “Like you don’t do that to us every mission, Boy Blunder.” Dick smirked and sat down on the bed, ignoring the chair beside it. “Uh, my bed,” came the jokingly offended response. “Uh, I don’t care,” Dick countered, before sliding under the covers and making himself comfortable beside Wally. The redhead looked deadpan at the brunet but still scooted closer, leaning against his friend. “So, did you bring it?” Dick looked Wally straight on, who snorted. “Of course, you have.” The acrobat got a container out of one of the pouches from the utility-belt. “Should I feel insulted that you thought I wouldn’t?” He handed it his friend, who without question accepted and opened it. “Nah, just wanted to see if you really hid melted Ice Cream in the belt,” Wally paused and took the spoon that Dick offered. “And that obviously just got answered.”
Wally began spooning the liquid as Dick checked him over. Various bandages covered the redhead and bruises were visible here and there, which brought up a question to his mind- “Did they find out what the Serum did?” He asked Wally, who hummed and nodded his head. “Yeah…,” he looked uncomfortable to the side. “Apparently it blocks a Meta’s powers, so until further notice, I’m powerless.” Came the meek reply. Wally obviously didn’t like that and visibly worried, which didn’t feel right with Dick. Unhappy Wally makes an unhappy Dick; that won’t do. “Welp,” Dick lightly patted his shoulder. “That’s not the end of the world.” Wally opened his mouth to retort but was shushed by Dick. “I don’t have any powers and I’m doing just fine. And I doubt that you won’t get your powers back. I mean, we have Ice Cream- more importantly melted Ice Cream! If that won’t help, then I don’t know what.” Wally stared at him like he was crazy, before bursting out laughing. “Suuure, and tomorrow I’ll be up and about again.”
Observing Wally as he laughed off his comment, Dick smiled happily. Happy Wally is much better than Sulky Wally by a stretch.
Wally recovered in record’s time and his powers returned soon after, all within a week.

The Pinecone
Shadymoss walked back and fourth, brushing the debris of dried and dead leaves with his tail that were too small to pick up--and a task Shadymoss just did not have the patience for-- to a spot by the den's wall, making a pile that would be easier to remove.
Melted Ice AU - Part 1
“Do you think we need to go to the hospital?” John Grayson worriedly asked his wife. Mary Grayson looked back her husband just as worried. “I don’t know.” She glanced across the trailer at her son’s rooms door, were behind laid a terribly ill Richard John Grayson in bed. The six-year-old sweated and turned uncomfortable as his small body fought of the sickness, whining, and calling out half-delirious for his parents.
Stepping inside the room, Mary walked over to her son and laid a wet rag over his forehead at which he shivered. “Mom?” Dickie opened his eyes a little and peered up at his mom. “Yes, my little robin?” The boy looked pleadingly at his mother. “Can I have…” Realizing what he means, Mary chuckles and softly smiled at her son. “Only this time.” She walked away and returned with a bowl of vanilla Ice Cream, her husband behind her standing in the doorframe, and put the bowl down on besides the bed. “Rest now, little robin.” Mary kissed his cheek and followed her husband out the room, closing the door behind her.
Starring after his mother, Dickie groaned and closed his eyes. This isn’t right. Why does it hurt this bad? Were his thoughts as the pain spiked. The seconds ticked by slowly, each minute worse than the last, tears threatening to spill due to pain and waiting, oh the waiting. After what felt like forever, Dickie turned his head to see and saw the ice cream melted in the bowl, just sitting there. Painfully sitting up, Dickie weakly took the bowl and slowly brought it to his mouth. “Creamy joy, Icey deal. Bring me joy in this trying deal.” He whispered before tipping the liquid into his mouth. The dairy cream flowed soothing down his raw throat, he sighed in relief as the coldness settling and spreading through his body. Finally. Feeling much better already, Dickie made himself comfortable and closed his eyes again, this time in relief than pain.
Tomorrow, he’ll be okay like nothing happened and his parents would stand aside, relief radiating from them and knowing smiles.
Melted Ice AU - Part 2
The eight-year-old boy peered over his plate at the man: bandages and bruises visibly scattered across his body. The acrobat didn’t know where those injuries came from, they weren’t there yesterday, and was worried for the man who took him in. Dinner went by quietly and Bruce retreated to his study, leaving the young boy behind in the dining hall. The butler was cleaning up the table and putting away the dishes as the brunet approached the elderly.
Noticing the boys presents, Alfred stopped what he was doing and turned to him. “Is there something you want, Master Richard?” Dick flinched at his first name but stayed quiet, gathering his courage to speak. Alfred waited patiently, knowing that the boy still struggles with English. Finally opening his mouth, Dick stumbled over the words and asked with a thick accent. “Cold… yogurt?” The older man was surprised by the youngers request but complied, opening the fridge, and taking out a cup of yogurt and giving it the boy. Dick accepted it, looked it over and shock his head, giving it back. Puzzled, Alfred took the cup and put it back in the fridge and thought again over the odd request. If it wasn’t yogurt, then maybe he meant… Going to the freezer, Alfred opened it and took out a container, then went back to the counter and opening a cupboard, taking out a bowl and opened the container to reveal vanilla ice cream. Dick peaked up as Alfred scooped ice cream into the bowl and handing it him. “This, Master Richard, is Ice cream,” he slowly explained. The boy nodded, internalising the word, and quietly leaving the kitchen towards the study. Arriving at the study’s door, Dick stopped and stood still. Should he give it now, or wait until it melted? Anxiously, the boy shifted from foot to foot, looking down the hall, at the door and at the ice cream. He sighed and was slowly turning to leave as the door opened, revealing the massive silhouette of Bruce.
“Richard, what are you doing here? Is something wrong?” The man asked slow and gentle, as to not scare the boy away. Shrinking into himself, Dick shook his head before thinking about it and nodded. Bruce kneeled to the boy’s height and put a hand on his shoulder, trying to catch his eyes. “What is wrong?” Dick hesitantly pointed to Bruce’s injuries. Realization hit him, as he understood that the boy was worried for him. Bruce’s expression softened and smiled warmly, touched that the kid who barely knew him was worried for him. “I’m okay, don’t worry about me. These will be gone in a few days.” Dick stubbornly shook his head and held out the bowl, which Bruce, to his embarrassment, didn’t notice until now. Accepting it, Bruce looked at the content. “Ice cream? Why give me Ice cream?” He questioned. Dick opened and closed his mouth a few times, looking for the right words to get across what he wanted to say. “The Ice cream warm- melt? Melt Ice cream heal. Heal, uh, owies? Ow, ow. You are ow, so melt Ice cream heal ow…” A blush spread across Dick’s cheeks, already knowing how he butchered English in that sentence, which embarrassed him. Bruce blinked as he tried to understand the boy’s intension. “You mean, that the melted Ice cream will heal my injuries and that’s why you got me this bowl of Ice cream?” He slowly asked, at which, after a moment, Dick nodded his head. Bruce, logically, knew that melted Ice cream wouldn’t help his injuries but there was also a boy, obviously worried for him, who wanted to help him. What was he to do? Sighing, Bruce stood up and smiled down at the boy. “Thank you, Richard. I will take this Ice Cream and wait for it to melt, while you go to bed, alright?” Dick nodded and watched Bruce walk back into his study.
“I…” Bruce stopped and looked back at the boy. “Me-my name…are-is…My name is…Dick. My name is Dick.” Confidence shined for the first time since he came to the manor in those blue eyes. A smile spread across his lips- damn this kid and his ability to make me smile- and nodded. “Good night, Dick.” Bruce entered the study and closed the door, not without hearing a quiet Good Night and the small pitter-patter of small feet rushing down the hallway. Lightly shacking his head, Bruce set the bowl down on his desk and went back to work.
If he ended up eating the Ice cream after it melted, nobody had to know.
(He recovered unusually fast, how weird...)
Melted Ice AU - Part 3
This certainly wasn’t how he thought the night would go, thought Wally as he sat on the ground of a random alleyway with the Boy Wonder tipping away on his holo-thingy. He’d ask the other what it was later once he wasn’t nursing a concussion. It was embarrassing to admit that in his excitement of meeting the first sidekick- the boy wonder! ...that he ran straight into a wall.
“What cha doing?” The redhead looked over the others sidekick’s shoulder. The brunet looked into (his new friend’s?) the others green eyes. “I’m looking for an open Ice Cream Shop.” Kid Flash wrinkled his nose. “This late? And why Ice Cream, though I’m all for it.” If the grumbling of his stomach was any indication of it. “For your injurie.” Robin blandly said. The speedster looked confused at the acrobat. “Okay, I get that cooling a bruise is good an’ all but Ice cream?” The acrobat ignored the speedster’s question and started walking into a random direction, pulling the other with him. “Whoa!”
Letting himself be pulled by the boy wonder, Kid Flash let his eyes wander and take in their surroundings. The dark, empty streets left an eery feeling in him, causing his steps to slightly speed up. He wasn’t scared! Just healthily wary of the most crime ridden city… with the craziest supervillains… That his mouth suddenly dry was, had nothing to do with it. As distracted as he was, Kid flash didn’t notice when the bird stopped in front of a shop. “Wait here.” Robin demanded and disappeared into the shop. Aaaaand now he was alone. In Gotham. No problem, not at all… Reeeaaaally didn’t think this is how the night would go.
After a good minute spend impatiently tapping his foot, Robin finally came out with a cup of what Kid Flash assumes is strawberry Ice cream. The boy wonder grabbed his hand again and lead him somewhere, Kid Flash followed wordlessly. They made a few turns and scaled a building, and sat down on the edge of the roof. It was quiet, only the distant noises of the night able to be heard between the two. Kid Flash glanced a couple times over to the bird, unsure what to say, but fortunately, Robin was the one who broke it first. “I used to believe in this thing. That Ice cream, wen melted, could heal anything.” He didn’t know what to respond as he watched Robin looking down at the desert in thought. “It’s stupid, really.” “No, it’s not.” The brunet’s head snapped up and their eyes met, at least Kid Flash thinks so. Rubbing his head, Kid Flash nervously chuckled. “I mean, everyone had their thing, something they did or thought or believed as a kid. That’s what being a kid is.” It was silent, Kid Flash rapidly going over what he said, did he say something wrong? “Maybe you’re right, KF.” He cocked his head in confusion. “KF?” The bird’s spread into a grin. “I have to call you something, no? Besides, we’re friends, friends give each other nicknames all the time.” KF eagerly straightened at that, and a smile of his own spread across his face. “We’re friends? Well, then I’m gonna call you Rob!”
They laughed, tension leaving their bodies as they relaxed in the others presence. Robin looked down and then at KF, before holding the cup out to him. “Here.” Accepting the cup, he could see the pink liquid swimming in the cup, residue coldness clinging to the paper cup. His lips quirked into a smile. “Wally West.” It startled the brunet when the redhead said the name. Looking at the speedster, Robin’s smile fell and a feeling of unease spread through him. “I can’ tell you my name, sorry. Batman’s order.” Wally waved the bird off. “It’s alright. Uncle Barry said that the Bat was super paranoid about pretty much everything. I just thought you should know.” The other stared at Wally for a moment, until finally relaxing and returning the smile.
“Thanks.” The other smiled brightly. “No prob, Rob.” Wally then chugged the cup of Ice cream, buuuuut ended up choking on it, causing Robin to laugh his ass of.
Not what I expected the night to go, but can’t say it was bad, after all.

When I was planning my move to my new-to-me condo, I thought I had everything covered. That should have been my first clue that there would be a wrinkle or two, knowing as I do that the universe doesn’t always conform to my plans. I had arranged to have about a month in which I would live in my rental apartment while I had some renovations done to the condo I was buying. The new flooring would…
