Wangji turned the corner just beyond the the entrance to Cloud Recesses and stopped. He let himself take in the sight there. Just outside the gates stood Xuanyu. His arms were crossed over his chest, cupping his elbows with his hands.
For a moment, Wangji didn’t move, so that he could memorize the sight. It was a familiar one, but that did not make it any less beautiful to him. The way that Xuanyu’s fingers fidgeted with his sleeve, the pale color of his eyes as they searched for Wangji, the way the expression on his face turned from anxiety to joy when their gazes met. That was the moment that Wangji stepped forward, going up the rest of the path to the gate.
Wangji pulled a small bag from his sleeve and dropped it into Xuanyu’s hands.
“What’s this?” Xuanyu started opening it before Wangji could answer him. Normally he’d wait, look the package itself over before even considering opening it. But anything from Wangji was greeted with instant trust. “sweets?”
“Mn.”
“You’re sweet.”
“... Mn.”
