I found another small hole in the ribbed top I repaired yesterday. It was wide enough to be difficult to hide the stitchwork, but on the side of my lower belly it's not at a focal point. Small mend. This top has rib knit for the body, but a neckline of woven cotton. The knit pulled away from the neckband in the back. I hand stitched it in place. Originally the shirt had a faux henley button placket in front, with a ruffle around it. I am not a ruffle fan, so I removed it several months ago. This top is So comfy and relaxed. The rib knit is 100% cotton... no lycra/spandex/elastane, which I really appreciate. I originally purchased this at a thrift shop for $2.99 a few years back. Last year I did a month of repairs, #MendItMarch. Here is one year ago... ---- Friend Claire of @15tangerines and @bittyacres came by today... with a favorite pair of gloves. They were sporting a hole... and so I fixed them for her (green is one of her favorite colors; I don't have orange thread, which is her favorite). This is the friend who dropped everything to help me the day before my surgery. She deserves a little love back, yes? Brian brought home a wooden "spoon" the other day, saying he doesn't like using plastic (melamine) cooking utensils. I usually dislike plastic, but metal burns me, and the texture of unfinished wood gives my hands the willies! Can't stand it. So my #menditmarch #mendmarch was to wet-sand it with a raggedy old hunk of @3M wet-dry sandpaper, 400 grit. Dried it 24 hours, and oiled it with Avocado oil, which tolerates very high temperatures. Might be the wrong oil for other wood applications, but the spoon now is a joy to touch. We can both enjoy using it. #ArtAsAnEveryDayAttitude #maker #diy #fixit
My #menditmarch #mendmarch of the day. Hard to show here, but my 1940's Brother straight-stitch sewing machine is my only functional non-serger machine. And then It stopped functioning on Thursday, skipping an inch of stitches at a time. Today I did a bunch of small tweaks... re-threaded it, cleaned the bobbin compartment, oiled it, changed the needle. I am not sure what fixed it, but right/turquoise is the nonfunctional stitching. Left/black stitches after. So I did it! Yaay!
