just a little something something for valentine's day :))

T shirt that says “I liked menelen before ilium”
Ranking various women of greek mythology based on whether or not i think they like their men covered in blood:
Cassandra: I don't think cassandra likes men period but if she did she would have no interest in romantic violence Andromache: if anything she would probably like her husband covered in blood less that man gives her heart attacks like every other day. she wants hector safe at home being her weighted blanket where he BELONGS
Aegialeia: if she did she would have probably liked diomedes more (SORRY MAN)
Deidamia: probably not a deal breaker but not really her thing. she fell in love with the artisan in achilles and his girlish charm yknow. she is hosing him down like a muddy dog Dido: not particularly she doesn't strike me as the type but she would be drawn to a guy willing to get covered in blood to protect her or assist in her Initiative if need be Penelope: I don't think she is turned on by the blood or the capacity for violence itself she also prefers her husband safe at home, however i do think she likes that odysseus is so insane style obsessed with her he would commit massive acts of violence in her name. plus tenderly washing said blood off Electra: she needs someone that is rocking with her and her Agenda if that involves getting covered in blood with her fuck yeah baby she's into that! Certified would kiss a guy after he killed someone Medea: honestly given just the like, how she is she would probably consider receiving the severed hand of her enemy as a gift horribly romantic. only reason i hesitate is tbh she might be more into getting covered in blood for someone else than the other way around if that makes sense. i think she does like them a little pathetic Helen: look she yelled at paris for not going to fight, openly wished menelaus killed him in the iliad, and in euripides helen she literally watches menelaus kill a bunch of guys and goes Yay yay yippee!! its canon to me you cannot convince me otherwise. don't they kill deiphobus together in one myth #couplegoals Iphigenia: She literally would have! it's real to me! she has a soldier's heart, she was hoping for achilles to slaughter the trojans swiftly and run right back home into her waiting arms all covered in the results of his labor. this is why fate had to separate them they would match each other's freak too much Clytemnestra: you can't convince me she doesn't that woman is insane. i have a very vivid vision i may or may not draw of agamemnon coming home from some pre trojan war conquest more red than anything and before he can wash off cly like hooks her legs around his waist and pulls him into her and is like "no. like this." and he is like holy shit im so in love with you right now. also cly and aegisthus probably fucked like DIRECTLY after killing agamemnon and cassandra they did not give a FUCK at that point.
thoughts on pre-war menelen?
they make me scream my head off and I love them
There’s the atreides taking refuge in Sparta so they could’ve met as kids or teens. (Childhood crushes!! Older siblings teasing them about it)
there’s the fact that she chooses him as her husband. Not arranged. She picks (I know it’s probably so that no one blames Tyndareus for picking the ‘wrong’ suitor but let me imagine that Helen begged her dad to let her call Menealus’ name)
I don’t think it was perfect. No marriage is perfect and I’m sure they fought and had rough patches etc etc. One child for what nine years? In a time of no birth control that could mean either struggles with infertility or child loss. There’s Menelaus having illegitimate children (but they could be after she leaves I don’t know much about them).
Despite any struggles or tensions, they do so clearly love each other. They mean everything to each other, which is why the abduction/disappearance/scandal whatever you want to call it hurts so much.
Things I'm Excited/Scared For In ILIUM: The Musical:
MeneHelen. I am truly so excited to see how Jorge chooses to handle their marriage, because in a lot of versions of the story Helen chooses him out of like a hundred or so suitors. Especially since it heavily involves Odysseus and is part of why he marries Penelope.
Eris being the original Maleficent and throwing the golden apple into the crowd of gods, in which Aphrodite, Hera and Athena (Athene) all claim they're the most beautiful goddess.
Menelaos and Agamemnon rounding up all of the kings/ex suitors who vowed to protect Helen's marriage. I love a good roundup character introduction song.
Odysseus' attempt to avoid fulfilling the contract he came up with be faking insanity and Agamemnon's general jackassary by almost having Telemakhos killed.
Love In Paradise the Prequel where Paris is harassing Helen and she just wants to get back to her beloved husband. Until she's forced to marry Paris that is. Yeah, she gets the bad ending temporarily.
I have to imagine there's going to be a song where Thetis is being a mother in mourning and Achilles (Akhilleus) just doesn't know what's going on. And I will cry.
Diomedes being Athena's (Athene's) pathetic little guy that she needs to constantly help while Odysseus is left to figure things out without godly assistance. I just think it'd be an interesting addition to the dynamic if Athena (Athene) helps Odysseus way less because she believes in him more but Odysseus just thinks she favours Diomedes.
Any song that includes my favourite prophet girl Kassandra. I love her.
Iphigenia. Just ... just everything about that situation. Odysseus and Diomedes faking a marriage proposal, Agamemnon sacrificing her to Artemis, the whole shebang.
The sheer amount of polyamory Achilles (Akhilleus) is doing. Deidamia, Patroklos and Briseis? My man has game.
All of the god songs. Any time the gods intervene. The sheer amount of singing we will get from all of the gods excites me.
Teucer (Teukros) and Ajax the Greater being the brothers of all time.
Hektromakhe and their lovely son Astyanax. I'm sure they'll be a loving family that nothing bad happens to.
Patroklos' death, Hector's (Hektros') death, and the whole ordeal surrounding dragging his corpse around on a chariot to taunt his family. Like damn Achilles (Akhilleus), he had a wife and son.
The Greeks pissing Athena (Athene) the fuck off by not murdering Little Ajax after he raped Kassandra in her temple. Also, the fact that Odysseus is the one trying to convince them to follow Athena's (Athene's) orders and he fails will add some delicious angst to their whole dynamic in EPIC.
The prophecy claims that the Greeks can't win the war without Achilles (Akhilleus) or his son by Deidamia, Pyrrhos/Neoptolemos, and yes, "Neo, avenge your father kill the brother's of Hector" is a reference to him. Also Hector (Hektros) had like twenty brothers or so, so like, that's basically a genocide. So I have to assume Paris has killed Achilles (Akhilleus) before the final battle.
The sheer amount of Trojan women Agamemnon completely disrespects and the poor wife at home who deserves way better.
Andromakhe losing her entire family only to be kidnapped by Neoptolemos. Like, my girls husbands corpse was dragged all around Troy and then her son was thrown off of the city walls. She has been through enough.
MeneHelen reunion in the middle of an active battlefield. Would You Fall In Love With Me Again the prequel where Helen is hoping Menelaos will want to remarry her even after being with Paris for ten years.
Oremione are like mini Menehelen to me. That's it that's the post see you next year
Menelaus and Helen doodle for the soul. ✧*。
