The World Is Larger ...
... than we'd think if we relied on the media, and it consists of more than hunger, warfare and capitalist insanity. Some of it is downright nice, and some people are actually doing wonderful things.
One of these is Haig Yazdjian, a singer, oud player and composer who now lives in Greece. He was born though to Armenian parents in the Syrian city of Aleppo, and his work combines traditional music from Armenia with more modern elements from the East.
When you listen to his music, borders dissolve, you travel back in time, and you might think Aleppo, the beautiful ancient monument to the good in human culture, is still a vibrant town, rather than the nightmare into which human culture's dark side has now turned it.
This folk melody - from Haig Yazdjian's album Beast on the Moon, published in 2000 on the Libra label - is called Mer Dan.
