I've been thinking about mercast sjips, specifically where one is human and the other is merfolk, it's a bit of a long idea.

So I bet you though Sjin is the merman, nope. Imagine Sjin being saved by merman Sips, and getting to know him. Imagine him telling Xeph about how he's met this mermaid, how this mermaid has told him all sorts of tales, and Xephos imagining this beautiful majestic creature.

One day Sjin takes Xeph to meet Sips. Sjin's the only human Sips has ever met so he's really wary of Xeph, and just kind of stays mostly under the water, and stays quite quiet, like he's not meant to talk to humans, they're dangerous, you know Sjin doesn't count though.

"Isn't he beautiful?"

"I'm not sure what you're definition of beautiful is but I can only just and so see it and-"

Sips immediately bursts out of the water, practically beaching himself, like, "What the fuck did you say about me?! Let me at this bastard Sjin."

This majestic creature that Xeph had imagined is actually this chubby grey guy with this stubby tail and a bad temper. Pretty defeated Xeph walks away and just watches from a distance, what does Sjin even see in that guy?

But then he can see them, both sat on the sand with the waves pooling around their waist so anyone who walks by would just see two normal guys taking a dip, and Sjin is laughing uncontrollably, and he's leaning on Sips' shoulder to hold him steady as he tries to catch his breath, and he can clearly see that Sjin's interest isn't in the fact he's a mermaid, he's just kind of infatuated with this guy. And as they leave Sjin is really quiet and rubs his arm sadly, just holding onto himself all of the way home.

"What's up? You've been quiet ever since we left Sips."

"I can't be with him Xeph. I can't be down there with him, and he can't come up here with me. It's just, you know, it's hard..."

"Because you love him?"

"Yeah... Because I love him."

Mercast - Rythian's story (Part 1)

I decided that I should give you a bit of insight into Rythian's past. I always seem to show him as the bad guy, and I almost portrayed him as the Ursula like character, but I changed my mind drastically.

Rythian had been curious; it was a gift and a burden. On this particular day his curiosity had peaked. He’d gone to the surface.

As a young mermaid the stories of the evil creatures that called the surface their home had been one of his favourites, but he had never believed many of the stories, as a child he had always been desperate to see one of these creatures up close.

His obsession with these beings had him cast out from his home, left to roam the seas alone. It was ‘unsafe’ to have an obsession with these creatures.

It was whilst he had been alone, watching the torch light from one of the ships bob steadily on the tide from a cove by the shore that he’d found her.

She fell from the sky it seemed. She let out a scream, but none of the excited creatures who were chanting on the ship realised that she was here, only Rythian saw her fall. Her body hit the water and Rythian waited for her to resurface, not daring to venture closer to her. He waited, hoping desperately to see one of these beings so close.

She didn’t resurface.

The human girl was obviously in great danger, he’d been studying them for so long that he knew they couldn’t survive under water, they drowned. Everyone spoke of their evil nature, so surely he should just let her drown, it would be one less creature that he and his people were forced to avoid.

He ducked his head under the water, her limp body was slowly descending deeper into the water. He swam towards the creature taking it in his arms; surely this thing couldn’t cause any damage. She appeared to be almost the same age as Rythian, but he was sure that they must have some sort of magic to slow the aging process. No matter what magic this creature possessed, its life was currently in Rythian’s hands, and he couldn’t just watch it die.

Powering his tail, moving as quickly as he could towards the surface, he held onto the lifeless body in his arms. He held its head above the water, hoping desperately that it would breath. He led the body on the sand by the entrance of the cove, he’d seen sailors drown before, he wasn’t as inclined to save all of them, he’d let their crew mates do the honours, but now he was trying to remember desperately what it was they did to breathe life back into the still bodies.

He raised his hands above his head and brought them down on the girl’s chest.

With a sudden cough she jumped back into life.

Rythian jumped away from her, throwing himself into the shadows of the small pool that the cove encased.

She coughed for a while trying to catch her breath, and it brought a smile to his Rythian’s face seeing that the girl would survive the ordeal. It was the first time he’d smiled since his banishment. Her coughing fit ended and she appeared to be breathing normally. She propped herself up onto her elbows, ringing her red hair out into the pool. Rythian sighed as he watched the beauty.

“Hello?” She called. “Is there somebody there?”

He slinked further back into the shadows, surprised that they spoke the same language. She continued to ask the darkness, “Did you save me? I just want to say thank you.”

“Y-you’re welcome.” He answered hesitantly.

A smile spread across her lips. “I would have died if you hadn’t saved me. I’m Zoey, what’s your name?”

“Rythian.”

“How did you get to me so quickly? Are you, like, part fish or something?” She joked, but as she said it she noticed the unnatural brightness of his purple eyes, almost as if they were glowing.

He poked his head from the shadows, and the fins on the side of his face made it fairly obvious that he was in fact part fish. As he slowly emerged from the shadows more and more strange features became obvious. The unnatural purple tinge to his skin, the strange markings that covered his skin, and finally, his long black tail, adorned with swirling patterns the same colour as his strange skin.

“Yes.” He answered bluntly.

Her jaw hung slack in awe of the creature that floated before her. She wanted to reach out and ensure that he was real, but before she could make a request he asked, “Would you mind if I felt your hair?” She was taken aback by the question. “I’ve never seen hair such a colour.” Said the creature with purple skin.

“It’s hair dye, y’know.”

He took the red strands in his hands, stroking it tenderly. “No, I don’t.”

“But, the streak in your hair…”

“I’ve had it my entire life. It comes from my mother’s side.”

“Oh, can I...?” She reached out and stroked his hair, it felt far softer than you would expect it to be having spent his life in the salty waters of the ocean. She laughed at the puzzled look on the mermaids face, and he did something he hadn’t done in a long time. He laughed with her.

  A friendship blossomed, in the short time they spent together, but as the morning sun rose over the waves a man came looking for Zoey, worrying the she was dead; he had spent the night trawling the sea.

 But before she had left they had promised that the next night they would meet each other in the same spot. They did this for every night for a month, until soon, it was more than friendship that they felt for oneanother.

  Rythian returned to the cove once again, waiting eagerly for Zoey to return. She rounded the corner and a smile spread across his face, until he noticed the look in her eyes.

She looked down at the ground, unwilling to meet his gaze. A tear spilled over her cheeks.

“Zoey? What’s wrong?!” She stood out of his reach, not for the first time he wished that he could climb from the water and hold her, comfort her.

“This can’t go on any longer Rythian. I’m sorry.”

“What? I- I don’t understand.”

“This will never work. We can’t see each other again. I’m really sorry Rythian.” She could not hold back the floods of tears any longer, as she ran from the cove that had been their secret. Leaving the broken-hearted merman alone.

Mercast - Part 3

I aim to please, so here is part 3! I think I might continue this actually, I had an idea for a whole plot, so I mat as well put it to use.

His ‘swimming’ resembled more of a thrashing motion, but it drove him forward so Duncan didn’t particularly care what he looked like; he was still convinced that it was a result of Zoey’s mushrooms, and that he was hallucinating. He was a man of science he didn’t believe in fairy tales.

He was at least happy to see that the ginger one, Honeydew, was having just as much trouble with his upper half as he had trying to swim. How could it possibly be so hard? Surely it was only like kicking with both legs at the same time.

“I need to get to the surface.”

Xephos turned to glare at him. “I wouldn’t recommend it. There are stories of merfolk who go up there and never return.”

“I come from the surface. I live up there, and I have to get back there. If this isn’t some sort of hallucination then I need to inform Zoey of my discoveries. We need to look into whatever science has made me this way, and use it to change me back.”

“That wasn’t science.” Honeydew said. “That was magic. Pure magic.”

“There’s no such thing as magic.” Duncan argued.

“Fine then, Lalna.” The ginger mermaid snickered. The brown haired mermaid added a short chuckle, trying to contain his laughter.

“What did you just call me?” Duncan asked in confusion.

“Oh, nothing.” The short bearded merman sniggered.

“What does it mean?”

The brown haired merman swam past Duncan shaking his head, a smile plastered across his face. “You really think that your science is going to be able to change you back?”

“Yes! There must be a logical explanation to all of this.” As the two merman swam away, Duncan shouted, “Where are you going?!”

“Home, it’s getting dark. Are you coming?”

“I need to go to my home! What do you mean ‘it’s getting dark’?! We’re at the bottom of the ocean, it’s always dark!”

Xephos stopped swimming, and turned to look at the blonde scientist, a frown pulling at his lips. He’d been looking for adventure, his desire to find answers to all of the questions that filled his head, was the reason he found himself in the current situation. Unfortunately, the answers he’d found weren’t the ones he’d hoped for.

“We were told that your people explored the depths of the oceans, and patrolled the surface of the seas. We were told that you were great creatures, with intelligence, and power. We were told that we should fear creatures like you. In reality you seem pretty shit, Lalna.”

“You should fear me! If you don’t help me get back, I’ll- I’ll, I’m not sure what I’ll do but you won’t like it.”

“Yeah right.” Honeydew scoffed rolling his eyes. “Are you going to stay here all night? Or, are you coming back with us?”

Duncan folded his arms across his chest, resilient that the only direction he would be moving in was towards the surface.

“Fine.” Honeydew sighed, before a smile spread across his lips. “We’ll just leave you to the bottom dwellers.”

“Bottom dwellers?”

Xephos smiled as well, adding, “Yeah, those three were nothing compared to some of the things that live down here.”

As the two mermen swam away, Duncan remained adamant. A low growl echoed from the darkness behind him. Looking over his shoulder briefly he saw nothing in the black fog that surrounded him. He was sure that only minutes ago there had been a ship wreck only metres to his right. In fact, the two mermen seemed to be slowly disappearing into the darkness.

“Erm, guys. I think I might come with you.”

The black finned mermaid was pushed against a boulder.

 “Listen guys, I didn’t know this was going to happen! I swear I had no idea that anything like this was possible.”

“You’d better know how to fix this!” Sips demanded.

“You told us it was safe!” Sjin complained.

“I- I thought it was safe!” Rythian tried to convince the two headed creature that had a grip on his throat, both its strong grey hand, and it’s more delicate long tanned fingers held him.

“Why the fuck did this happen?!” Sips ordered.

Rythian looked at them, the way their completely opposite bodies had somehow managed to blend together. The truth was he had no idea what had happened, or how it was possible that such a thing as completely merging two mermen together was possible. It was almost comical, but Rythian had no desire to laugh in his current predicament. “I can fix this!”

“You’d better be able to fix this. You’re already in debt Rythian.” Sips threatened.

“I- I’m going to need some more dark matter though.”

“More?!” Sjin asked. “It took a lot of our time and effort to find those resources for you. Do you think we just pull them out of thin air?!”

“I know, I know, but I need it in order to reverse the magic.”

The two heads looked to one another. “We’ll get you you’re dark matter.” Sips stated.

“But whilst we’re gone, if we heard you’ve run away, we’ll find you.”

“We’re good at finding old clients.”

Rythian sighed, remembering the previous time he had been in debt to them; he had no idea why he’d ever gone back to them. “I know.”

Satisfied that they would achieve exactly what they wanted, the strange creature that was Sips and Sjin swam into the darkness, it was strange that despite only one hiccup, they were able to swim with their bodies merged together.

Rythian was left alone in the darkness. The memory last time flooding back to him, and a smile tugging at his lips.

I don't usually put notes at the end, but today I am making an exception because I made myself laugh. When Sips said that Rythian was in debt to them, I just thought "They're like loan sharks", it's funny because Sips is part shark... No?

I'll go crawl back in my hole now.

I still need to finish "seeing double" and write a sjinty fic before I can DIVE into that.
