In 2021 AD Rick Deckard is assigned to retire six escaped androids. The world is a dieing place after the nuclear World War Terminus. The nuclear fallout has severally damaged the world and off plant colonization is heavily pushed (though those already too genetically damaged or with too low an IQ are condemned to remain on Earth). Most of the animal life has been wiped out, so the keeping and care of animals is considered an honor and a duty. Those who can’t afford or find a live animal use robotic substitutes. Decker had been lucky enough to own a real sheep but after it died, he replaced it with a robotic one. The two main religions are Mercerism, which involves using a device called the empathy box, and the television based Buster Friendly and his Friendly Friends.
