Another example of the bullshit bubble economy: uBeam
As an entrepreneur that has built many businesses, both successes and failures, but always within the laws of economics and physics, hardly a day passes where I don’t read about some bullshit, pie-in-the-sky tech startup that just landed another $XX million in funding for a totally non-viable idea.
Today it was uBeam, apparently they landed $10 million for an ultra sound device that will…

uBeam me up, Scotty! Wifi for energy
Hear the NPR interview with Meredith Perry about her invention:

This is the future. You won't need to lug around unneccesary cables. All you'll need is that uBeam device transmitting out the energy which you can divert to your device. It may still be a while until it actually comes out at a reasonable price but that doesn't mean you can't help fund this project. The finalized product, by itself, is coming out this Fall. Invest in uBeam and invest in the future!
There are two components to the uBeam charge system: the uBeam Charge Station, which plugs into the wall and emits energy, and the uBeam Battery Adapter, which plugs into your electronics and absorbs energy. The uBeam charge station can be thought of as a speaker- but instead of emitting audio, it emits inaudible high frequency sound called ultrasound. As sound is a form of energy, it can be converted into usable energy with the help of an energy converter, otherwise known as a transducer.
They have created a small-scale proof of concept model, but need better equipment for the actual prototype. Perry and Dweck are in the R&D phase right now, and anticipate a finalized product by Fall 2011.

This chick is awesome. She invented a transmitter that recharges devices using ultrasonic waves, started her own company and she's kicking everyone's ass at 22.
