aredhel + barefoot

I rolled 15!

Breathing was just so good. She hadn’t realised how much she missed it until she could do it properly again, a slow inhale through the nose and a deep sigh as the air escaped her. She was alive! She was alive and surrounded her family. Turgon was off to one side, reuniting with Idril, her parents were embracing, her son was having a very awkward, but earnest conversation with Tuor. Eöl was nowhere in sight. It was good, so, so good, to have them all here.

Fingon slung an arm around Aredhel’s shoulder, the casual affection so familiar, yet so achingly forgein. It had been so long since she had stood barefoot in the grass, sun shining down on her, her family close by, and more coming. Finarfin and his children were almost at the foot of the hill the Halls of Mandos sat on, and Aredhel was suddenly seized with the urge to run. There was nothing stopping her, no walls penning her in.

“Race you!” she cried, shoving Fingon in the side and taking off down the hill.

Aredhel could hear Fingon’s whoop of joy as he began the chase, Turgon’s sigh as he joined in. Galadriel’s laughter rose up to meet her, and they were alive, they were all so alive. She could feel the grass under her feet and it was just so good.

In the warm half-light of his stone chambers in Nargothrond, Finrod opened a small silver locket he often wore secretly under layers of clothes.

He knew he should not long linger here, that he needed to be a king for his people as Nargothrond died a slow death around them.

Yet from the locket, Amarie's radiant face smiled at him as it always had in the long years since they parted in Valinor, and he felt a small hope bloom inside him once more.
