the thing is. the way i see it, i don't think arthur is aware of his crush on merlin. because he's an oblivious idiot, and because that wouldn't even cross his mind as a possibility. so he flirts with him thinking this is just banter between best friends who are really close and trust each other. until merlin gives him a little peck on the lips to shut him up one time and he goes oh. i guess i hadn't considered all the possibilities. yeah this works, i'll take whatever this is.
