Bagginshield Merlin!AU cuz one tragic ship is not enough I had to combine them xD
I'm back to my sketching (I have quite a few to post too. Including pastor!Thorin, and Bilbo in a knitted west being very fancy) taking a break from starter packs, but don't worry I will be posting one more Nwalin pack as soon as I'm done with it!
I'm thinking of a RWRB x Merlin crossover fic where Alex has magic and the wedding reception takes after s1ep1 of Merlin where the singer arrives at court to kill Arthur (in this case, Henry).
Alex gets drunk for the same reasons, but he steps out for some air when the show begins. The guests start falling asleep, and one of them collapses against the French doors of the balcony or whatever, catching his attention. So he comes back inside and the interruption makes her stop singing. He looks around and says something Very Alex™ like, "...okay, I'm drunk but not that drunk. What's going on?"
Henry wakes up enough to see her try and throw a knife, but Alex, without even thinking, swipes the knife out of the air with magic, sending it over Henry's head and into the cake behind him. Afraid, still half asleep, and losing his balance to avoid the knife, Henry falls back against the cake table the same time Alex tries to saunter by.
"I don't like the guy either, but that's a bit much. 'Scuse meeee," he sings as he tries to reach up for the knife but Henry shoves him since that's evidence. Instead of grasping the knife, Alex grabs Henry.
Long story short, the cake still crashes down. Henry is the only one who knows Alex has magic, and the crown is unsure whether to give Alex a medal or to exile him.
Dreams can come true. Even the most daring and a little forbidden... The Prince grew up on stories about powerful creatures who could block the sun with a wingspan and incinerate an entire city with a fiery breath; on legends about those few who were not afraid of the elements and risked becoming a disciple of the ancients, and then, having already become equals, learn to command both magic inside themselves and inside the dragon. Young Arthur dreamed of fighting shoulder to shoulder with these amazing people and their great companions, and dreamed that his father would finally understand that there was no better ally in the world... He dreamed, and each time he picked up the pieces of that dream again after each ruthless refusal and act of his king. He was dreaming, and had absolutely no idea that Merlin, whom he met while hunting in the forest, could make his dreams come true. Who knew that this smiling young man with a wave of his hand and a flash of fire in his eyes commands the elements, dragons, dreams and one heart.
"I'm not sure about this," Kyle says as the house appears over the hill, looking homey with smoke coming out of the chimney.
It looks inviting, which tells Jenna that it's exactly the opposite.
Jenna has heard the rumors and while she usually wouldn't step outside of the law, especially while still living within the castle walls, Charlie is sick, cursed and there is nothing that Jenna won't do for her.
Jenna climbs down from her horse, patting her flank when she whines unhappily.
"Everything will be just fine, Saph," she says, rubbing her hand over her snout as she moves closer to the stone path leading to the house.
Kyle clears his throat as he moves to stand beside her. "You don't have to come with me."
Kyle just gives her a look. "I've come this far-"
"And I appreciate it," she tells him sincerely. "But it's not necessary. You don't have to implicate yourself. I know how precarious your position is."
Kyle exhales roughly and smiles, before he takes a step back.
"I'll make sure no one comes and interrupts you."
Jenna nods her head in thanks turning towards the house.
She takes a deep breath and then steps on to the path.
It seems to take longer than it should to reach the front door, but Jenna keeps going.
She's out of breath by the time she reaches the door, but she just takes a second to stand up straight and breathes in deeply before she knocks on the door.
The door shakes with it, but when she leans in close, she doesn't hear any movement inside.
"Hello," she calls out. "I know there's someone in there!"
The door unclicks, opening with squeak and she just inhales deeply and walks inside.
She barely gets a few steps inside before the door closes behind her with a slam and she swirls around looking behind herself.
She feels the air shifting behind her, and she puts her hand on the hilt of her sword and turns again, pulling it out as she goes.
The witch stands on the other end of her sword, and she tsks as she taps the edge of Jenna's sword with two fingers.
"Put that away," she says in an admonishing tone. "It's not necessary."
Jenna stays frozen for a second because the witch really doesn't look like how she would have expected.
She was dressed in all pastels with flowers in her long curly hair. The hem of her skirt was tied to her hip and her feet were bare, and she turns her back on Jenna and walks over to the table.
Jenna reminds herself that she is here to get help and inhales deeply before putting her sword away.
“I’m Cameron,” Jenna says, stepping forward as the witch sits down at the table.
“I know who you are,” she says, and waves her fingers towards the empty chair in front of her. “Why don’t you take a seat, Jenna, and we can talk about what’s brought you here.”
Jenna swallows hard, eyeing her suspiciously.
“You have me at a disadvantage,” Jenna says. “Seeing as I don’t know your name.”
The witch grins at her. “You can call me Maria.”
Jenna takes the seat across from her and pulls out the cloth where she’d wrapped the strange poultice that she had found over Charlie’s wound.
She reaches across the table, and Maria wraps her fingers around her wrist, tossing the cloth aside on the table and then lifting her hand to her face.
She presses Jenna’s hand to her face, inhaling deeply, and Jenna jumps, eyes going wide.
Maria just closes her eyes lifting her face up to the ceiling and then exhales slowly.
She looks back to Jenna, eyes half lidded and says. “Someone has made the King very angry.”
Jenna tugs her hand away from Maria, and tries not to think about how she hasn’t fulfilled the King’s request and has so far avoided being alone with him.
“But don’t worry,” she continues, grabbing the cloth and opening it up to poke around at the bandages inside. “I know exactly what you need.”
She stands up and waves her hand towards the fire and it goes brighter, illuminating the rest of the room as she starts going through her cupboards.
Jenna watches as she fills a talisman with different herbs and a feather, before she walks back to Jenna.
She ties the bag close with a string she pulls from the hem of her skirt and then tosses it to Jenna who catches it automatically.
“Now all you need is a drop of royal blood,” she says.
Jenna gives her a disbelieving look.
Maria rolls her eyes at her. “The Prince would be more than willing if you get the right person to ask him.”
Jenna licks her lips thinking about how worried the Prince had been when Michael hadn’t shown up for breakfast that morning, and how relieved he’d looked before he hid it when Michael had shown up later during training.
“Alright,” she says, and tucks the talisman away in the same pocket she’d kept the poultice. “What do I owe you?”
Jenna thinks she has enough gold on her, but she’s willing to get more if needed.
“A favor,” Maria says.
Jenna furrows her brow. “What kind of favor?”
Maria hums noncommittally, “To be determined. But don’t worry, I won’t ask for anything too bad.”
Jenna wants to protest but before she can, Maria is rolling her eyes again and snapping her fingers.
Jenna blinks and suddenly she’s standing right at the beginning of the stone path.
She hears Kyle give a startled shout, and the horses snort in surprise.
She turns around, feeling her heart beating too fast, and licks her lips when Kyle just looks at her expectantly.
“She gave me what I needed, but I have to talk to Michael.”
Kyle furrows his brow for a second before he seems to understand what’s going on.
“Jenna-” he starts, and then stops shaking her head. “Let’s just head back before anyone notices how long we’ve been gone.”
Jenna nods her head, and walks over to Saph.
She stops when she feels like a cold breeze is sweeping up the back of her neck and turns to see Maria standing at the door.
She waves at Jenna, and Jenna just nods back before she turns back around.
She stuffs her hand into her pocket, closing her fingers around the talisman and breathes in deeply.
Whatever the favor Maria ends up asking of her, Jenna thinks it will all be worth it if it saves Charlie.
There was only ever the pair of 'em. In all sorts of lives, in unimaginable realities. Their souls have been burning since time immemorial. Now their flames have taken on a literal meaning — one was born in it, and the second brings death by fire to those whom the first commands.
