I can't get over the shit ending of Merlin

Please convince me it makes sense

Merlin is still trending and i want to say something important:

Merthur is not ‘queer baiting’. Anyone with eyes could see that the powerful, believable, star-crossed love story in the show was between Merlin and Arthur.

Julian Murphy: “We did, very genuinely, think of the episode as a love story between two men. Which is what I think it is, jokes and innuendo aside,” he says. McGrath adds that, “you can’t deny that Merlin and Arthur do love each other, you know? In whatever love way you want to think, there is no denying.”

I’m genuinely grateful to the producers and the director (the same one as for 5.01 and 5.02 - also strongly Merthur) that they wrote and shot and allowed the final Merthur interaction to be acted as a love scene.

Merlin will go on and on and wait for Arthur to rise again - that, we were explicitly told, was their fate. That’s why a part of me loved the ending. I’m very, very grateful they chose finally to honour Merlin and Arthur, and Colin and Bradley, and give us this at the end.

Everything was saved and elevated by the decision to make the ending all about Merlin's relationship with Arthur, the HEART of the show.

Everything from the ‘Just hold me,’ said in Arthurs old imperious Merlin-speak was beautiful. Arthur’s speech, his need to tell Merlin at the end how much he meant to him, his ‘Sorry‘ and his ‘Thank You‘. The emotion conveyed between Colin and Bradley, the way they played the physicality of the scene – it was stunning :)

you know how merlin is immortal, but we see that he does age with his immortality in the time skip at the end of the series, do you reckon that he is actually really addicted to drugs? or smth cause if I were 1000s of years old and my body was also 1000s of years old I know id be taking pain killers like crazy!! or would he have magic for that??? idk tho cause he complained abt having an old body a lot when he played dragoon

There was no way Merlin could have had a happy ending. Arthurian legends end in tragedy, so how could Merlin have been any different? It would be like doing a retelling of Othello with a happy ending.

Lancelot's death was when everything started to go downhill. Merlin is never as carefree again after 4x02.

But the writers could have given us a hopeful ending. Say, elderly Merlin is standing with his back to us, looking out over the lake, when he hears two voices.

"Excuse me. Is there any chance you might be able to help us?"

"Yeah, we're meeting up with some friends and we're not sure we're in the right place."

The world seems to stand still, because he knows those voices and so do we.

It's Lancelot. And Gwaine.

We only see their backs as Merlin turns around and grins. "Trust me, gentlemen. You are in just the right place."

And, in his eyes, we can see Young Merlin again.

I wish they make merlin season 6

As a farewell

The hype truly didn't die

Even though the show had nothing after ending. A lot of shows have cons or reboots or spin off or anything really

I mean I understand that it ended and everything and not all of the stories need to end happily to truly end but God damn it merlin is another thing

I love being part of a fandom of media that i purposefully haven't seen the ending of

I love Merlin but i haven't seen the last 6 episodes. I'm been in the spn fandom for a decade and i haven't seen the last two seasons. I'm a trekkie and i haven't seen the ending to any of them. I kin will and haven't seen the last season of Hannibal. I'v been obsessed with dimension 20 for about 5 yrs and I've only watched the ending to 2 of the campaigns.

I just finished the Merlin series 5 mins ago and i just, i need to share this.

I don’t hate the ending.

I understand that Arthur dying is sad and really it is so so depressing, and i also confess that i cried, but i’m okay with the ending.

The whole idea of prophecies is very vague in the show, but Merlin didn't fail. Neither Arthur.

Arthur made peace with the 5 Kingdoms. Merlin defeated Morgana and the Saxons.

Gwen became the ruler of a united and prosperous land because of Arthur and Merlin. The finale is meant to tell us that Camelot is safe in Gwen's hands and ready to move forward. She knew Merlin has magic. She knew Merlin defeated the Saxons. She was pleased. Magic is legal again, without any doubt.

Arthur and Merlin succeeded in their goal, by proxy.

Camelot hasn't fallen. The peace was achieved. Merlin is immortal and Arthur will rise again.

Also, Bradley and Colin were brilliant.

The only thing that breaks my heart is the fact that Merlin lives on after, waiting for Arthur in trauma, that’s the only part i dislike. I hope he's not alone.

It could've been better ? Yes. Too many fillers.  Arthur should have found out about Merlin's magic so much sooner and then gradually introduced him and the magic to Gwen and the Knights. 

But i still don’t hate it.
