Thinking about Merlin Time Travel Fix-Its:

What kind of technological, medical and scientific advances do you think Merlin could recreate either using his magic or not, given the technology available in canon era. This of course assumes Merlin was keeping up with all that stuff

(There is no way that while he was waiting for Arthur to return he wasn’t keeping up his knowledge of at the very least the medical advances in preparation for Arthur’s return and subsequently him constantly having NDEs once he does)

I personally think of the following:

Without needing magic:

Penicillin- Since it comes from a mold I think he could reasonably figure out how to recreate it

Steel -basically carbonized iron

CPR

Using alcohol to sterilize medical tools

Greenhouses -not sure if magic would be needed to maintain indoor humidity levels

Need to use magic to recreate the effects due to lack of technology

The electric resuscitation thing where when the heart goes into v-fib you can shock back to normal rythm - I think he could use his magic to produce just enough electricity in his hands to recreate the effect

Oxygen tanks - maybe????

What do others think? I’m just curious.

"Since our job's done here, let's go set something on fire, Merlin." "Uh, maybe not set something on fire?" Gwen quickly interrupted with a frown. "I'm on Gwen with this one," Merlin said apologetically. "But Merlin! We haven't set anything on fire this past two weeks!" Merlin winced. "Actually… Lancelot and I already set something on fire." Gwaine pouted with resentment. "Oh, sorry. I should have known that you preferred Lancelot over me." "I don't! I like you both equally!" Gwaine turned away from him, crossing his arms. Merlin shared an exasperated look with Gwen. "Look," Merlin said. "We didn't actually mean to set anything on fire. So you really can't base your statement over that." Gwaine turned back to him with glee. "So does that mean you still haven't intentionally set anything else on fire after we burned that old lord's whole underwear drawer two weeks ago?" "I suppose so." Gwaine snapped his fingers. "That's it. We're going to set something on fire."

Just an entire day where Gwaine and Merlin do pranks and shit for the fun of it while everyone around them either a) runs for their life or b) sighs deeply and disapppointedly

Chapter Twelve - Leap of Faith “When's the last time these were cleaned?” Arthur didn’t hesitate to answer, “Last year sometime. Before the Feast of Beltane.” Lynette pulled a face at the memory as she said, “Not my favorite guest of Camelot.” “Did it end in a food fight?” Merlin asked, both in disgust and mild curiosity. “Don't all feasts?” Arthur asked in jest. Lynette shook her head as she placed her hand on Arthur’s forearm and explained, “Ignore him, Merlin. It was the one feast that wasn’t in his honor. It was being held for a famous knight of a neighboring kingdom. I recall the youngest son of King Pellinore, a man named Percival.” “Well, that makes sense about that one feast.” Merlin conceded but sent a subtle nod to the reconciliation between the two. “Although I wouldn't know. The airs and graces of the court are a mystery to me.” “Not after tonight; they won't be.” Arthur decrees as he walks away toward his wardrobe. “I'm going to be at the banquet?” “Not quite,” Arthur answered. “You'll be there to make sure my cup doesn't run dry. If I have to sit through Bayard's boring speeches, I don't see why you should get out of it.” Lynette shook her head, “His lordship’s speeches are probably the shortest out of everybody who visits.” “True.” Arthur laments before throwing a red leather jerkin toward Merlin. “Be sure to polish the buttons. Do you want to see what you'll be wearing tonight?” “Won't this do?” Merlin asked, looking at his usual attire. “No,” Arthur said with a shake of his head. “Morgana is dressing Lynette and her maid for the feast. Tonight you'll be wearing the official ceremonial robes of the servants of Camelot.” The atrocious attire Arthur held up for Merlin to see caused Lynette to laugh. Merlin looked less amused as he replied, “You can't be serious.” Lynette left the boys to the debate over Merlin’s ‘ceremonial robes.’ Arthur’s comment reminded her she was running late for her girl's evening with Morgana and Gwen to dress for the feast. The girl knew better than to make Morgana wait, especially when the King’s ward picked the outfit. She quickly stopped in her chambers to retrieve the calming drought before leaving. Excited to see what Morgana had in store and happy that she and Arthur understood what the future held. They had hoped, and they had to pray that would be enough.

Lynette cared for magic, but could never wield such wonder except in her dreams. The hustle and bustle of the lower town to the intrigues of court life made up most of her childhood memories. As the physician's daughter, many people would find her helping the elderly with their large loads or playing with the children in alleyways. As a humble servant to her thriving kingdom, Lynette struggles to face the light of a new dawn in the war against magic. A light that manifests into her long predestined fate as the one they call the once and future queen. Arthur was fearful of magic, and all it had taken and could take from him. He learned at a young age what it meant and how it had affected the lives of those around him. As the son of a king, most would find him training with his knights or at his desk with mounds of paperwork. However, he could also be found in the physician's chambers spending time with his best friend. As a prince of a kingdom,Arthur held on to every momentof freedom until it was his time to rule. A luxury that would fade into darkness and give way to his fate as the once and future king. Magic knew no bounds when it came to the constraints of destiny. It had a tendency to morph and evolve until it was unrecognizable to all except those who knew it. An untamable force that struck fear into the hearts of many and yet longing in others. The meeting of two extraordinary individuals was written in the time of dragons. A destiny that weaves a sorcerer, servant, and prince into a chain of unpredictable events that would go down in history as legends in the Albion escapades.

Chapter One - It Is Wednesday Lynette's eyes widen in disbelief. She knew people could be taught magic from a young age, having witnessed it for herself when she was young. Some were even said to have a natural talent for it after only a few years of honing their skills. However, she had never come across somebody who had been born with the power to already perform magic since infancy. She supposed it could be exceedingly rare but could not fathom how terrifying a gift it would be to possess it while Uther still ruled. "That's impossible!" Gaius accused before taking a better look at the boy, sensing he looked somewhat familiar, "Who are you?" "Oh..." Lynette watched as he struggled to pull something from his pack. "I have this." He handed the letter over to the physician who glanced at it, "I don't have my reading glasses." "I'm Merlin." "Hunith's son?" Lynette asked, wanting to confirm her suspicions. "Yes!"  What a great way to make a first impression, Lynette thought as she stared at the boy before her. The revelation that he was her cousin seemed to release tension for Merlin, who let out a relieved sigh at knowing he was among the family he had traveled to see. While Gaius seemed to be mulling over how to proceed, Lynette did her best to appear welcoming. She stepped forward and brought the young boy into an awkward hug, trying to convey her happiness through a simple gesture. Lynette's joy at meeting her cousin was short-lived when her father exclaimed, "But you're not meant to be here till Wednesday!" "It is Wednesday, Father," Lynette explained, giving him a worried look. Her father was not one to forget even the smallest detail.
