State Ship Series: USS COLORADO
There have been three ships commissioned named after the state of Colorado in the US Navy. The state of Colorado was admitted into the United States on August 1, 1876.
Pennsylvania Class, Armored Cruiser, in commission from 1905 to 1927. In 1916, renamed USS Pueblo to free the name for BB-45.

She escorted convoys across the Atlantic during WWI. In 1920, she was reclassified as USS Pueblo (CA-7) when the Navy revised their hull number scheme. In the late 1920s, became a receiving ship. Scrapped in 1930.
Colorado Class, Dreadnought Battleship, in commission from 1923 to 1947.
Nicknamed: Buckin' Brunco
Last lead ship of the Standard Type Battleship. She was part of the "Big 5", the group that consisted of the the most modern battleships of the interwar period. The group compromised of the Tennessee class and Colorado class.
She was in Puget Sound Navy Yard for an overhaul and refit during the Surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. She was due to receive a modernization refit like the New Mexico Class with tower super structure but these plans were cancelled.
Both USS Maryland and her received the least amount of upgrades of the Pacific Fleet dreadnought battleships and by the end of the war were the least modern battleships retained by the Navy. A post war plan to turn her into a radio control target ship, similar to USS Utah (AG-16), was cancelled. She was scrapped in 1959. She was award seven battle stars during WWII.
3. USS COLORADO (SSN-788)
