Howdy Merry! Thank you so much for your questions about Stein beloved! I always love yapping about my best bartender.

6. What is an aspect of their appearance that you like the most? - Answered here!

In the grand scheme of the "Outer Wilds" story - Stein doesn't really have much of an arc. As with all of my hearthian OCs, they're designed to simply be "part" of Timber Hearth - so from a player perspective, they would just be an NPC member of the village.

In their own story however, Stein has what I would describe as a very grounded and personal character arc. They deal with things that everyday folks in real life have probably dealt with - the hope and heartache of wanting to start a family, the simple joy of spending quality time with their best friend, the mundanity of every day life - and I like that about them. Sometimes you don't need existential horror or the fear of a never-ending time-loop or supernova to have a compelling character.

I would say that Stein has two main character arcs that are integral to their story.

The first comes from the fear of losing their best friend, Mylo. It gives them a wake-up call as to how quickly those you love can be taken from you, and also pushes them to follow through with their idea of On The Rocks.

The second comes from their yearning to have a hatchling of their own and how they deal with the realisation that they simply can't do that. It's a quiet and personal arc that has a big impact on them. It starts out happy and hopeful, turns to grief, and then quiet acceptance - before ending happily when they get to adopt Mig. Stein places a lot of importance on their bonds with others, and their weird little found family is very precious to them.

19. What is your general favourite thing about the character? What is your least favourite?

I think my favourite thing about Stein is their story. It feels real and impactful in a quiet kind of way, and I really like that about them.

I also love how they look. I really like their design, they feel striking but not in an "out of universe" way and I'm quite proud of that!

Okay, to be honest I love every aspect of them, haha! It's really hard to pin down a "least favourite" because I don't think there is anything about them I don't really like? I guess from an efficiency perspective, I could have made their markings a little easier to draw? But even then, I like their markings so I don't mind taking the time to draw them, haha!

Stein truly is the golden child, lmao.

Hey folks! I'm merrydock, and this is my obligatory first post!

A short introduction: I'm a writer with a background in biology/geology. I love all things nature and space so naturally I adore sci-fi. I play video games when I have the time, hike with my puppy, and read constantly. I draw sometimes too, but I'm not very good at it yet!

I'm going to use this blog primarily to post about my writing (fanfiction and maybe original works). For the past year, I've been working on a MASSIVE Outer Wilds project, so that's mostly what will be posted here for now!
