Hey! I go by Naryu or Narhystis, but feel free to just use Nar for short :)

This blog is mostly an art blog. Now, I'm just an hobbyist artist, so the quality and subject of my artworks or creations may vary greatly depending on energy, motivation and current interests.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME:

I'm just a chill guy but maybe a little too disconnected from social norms to not be weird, enjoyer of simple things. I appreciate most things, because it has the merit to exist and be here to wonder about and observe. I love learning about stuff and helping others when I can.

I like to ponder on things and I strive to consider all possibilities and have all elements before taking a decision, even if I tend to overthink everything ahah.

I like most animals, though I absolutely adore birds, bugs and fishes <3

Also, I'm obsessed with details.

I'm not the best at communicating with others, but I try (I want to, but I have a very small social battery). Though, if you ever want to talk about a common interest or something, please do not hesitate to reach out !

However, if we have never been in contact before, please state plainly why you're contacting me in your first message, or I might ignore you (e.g. if it's to ask a question, ask the question, if it's to socialise, just say so ^^' ).

It won't be against you per se, but for various reasons, I have developed an aversion to people I don't know starting their messages with just a greeting word or "how you doin?" and leaving it at that.

From time to time I happen to do requests; when I do, a post will be made about it, with the guidelines to submitting you request.

They are pretty simple guidelines, so I expect them to be met (e.g. Only Hollow knight OCs or characters). If not, best case scenario: I will either ignore your request or reply I won't do it in private.

Worst case scenario: you get blocked. Simple.

Favorite flower: I don't really have a favorite flower! There are some I find really nice, but overall their ephemerality makes them less interesting to me than the actual plants i guess. On that note though I saw a Pieris japonica recently and let's just say I'm a fan, I'm definitely thinking of getting one for myself ^^

Currently watching: I'm watching Daredevil: Born Again.

Current obsession: None. I can't seem to find anything that does it for me right now.

Currently working on: My TTRP OCs. My life and assembling more furniture for the living room.

Last google search: "pieris". to ensure I remembered well the actual plant I’m speaking of above. Sorry nothing interesting.

What are you wearing right now: It's the weekend rn and I'm not going anywhere, so nothing fancy - though it's rare I wear anything fancy anyway. I'm wearing the Quirrel shirt from fangamer, tucked into a grey jean-like below-the-knee short. Bare foot.

i wanna hear about begonia rex dragon design!

Hey Dweeb!

So this one, I just wanted to try my hand at plant based dragon designs, and I just saw this beautiful pic of a blue begonia rex one day and I just felt inspired.

It was a nice challenge, but overall I just grew bored of the rendering ahah. If I were to continue it, I wouldn't redesign much tbh, just the head which is bugging me heh (it's way too small and the head shape doesn't fit that well with the rest of the design I feel).

Origins of your Blog's Name

That's just my online username. I made it a long time ago by just taking the word "Ryū", putting Na in front (though I can't remember if I just liked it or if it came from natsu(summer)) then simplified it because I wasn't going to write the ū every time. -n is just because otherwise the username was already taken most of the time. I've been thinking about changing it, but I like being called Nar, so you can also find me under Narhystis more and more. And since I'm at it, for my side blog name, lezardpeinard, it's just french for "hassle-free lizard" in reference to my sona and sunbathing habit.

My go-to Food Order

I don't order much. But huh if I did I guess it would be hotdogs, sub sandwich and asian food.

Current Comfort Media

Hmm, I have a lot of media that brings me different things, but comfort? I guess that would be the media I always come back to by default after a while so here goes nothing:

Games: Skyrim, Pokemon leaf green and ruby, first two Pokemon Mystery Dungeons and Pkmn rangers. The nostalgia is comforting. (Any gameboy or DS games I feel like picking up again)

Music: music from video games I liked, and lots of songs with meaningful lyrics ahah.

Series: Detective conan (Meitantei Conan), One piece, Merlin BBC, Moomins.

Films: How to train your dragon (the first film), Encanto, Coco.

Fanfics on my current interest.

Well it changes depending on my mood and current interests as I tend to process things through music and songs a lot. So right now it would be:

"Burn, butcher burn" and "whoreson prison blues" from The Witcher series. The drama, the theatrics, the emotions. I'm just loving it ok x)

AJR - "The dumb song" , "Dear Winter", "Touchy Feely fool", "Bummerland", "3 O'Clock Things"

Current Hyperfixations

This might be surprising but nothing I would call an hyperfixation right now really. While Outer wilds would have been an easy answer a few months back, that just isn't true anymore. Don't get me wrong I will always love this game, I still keep fond memories of it, but I kinda burnt myself out on it a bit. But that just means it's now part of my list of things I enjoy thinking about occasionally, which means I will keep on drawing a bit of OW amongst other things now. Especially OCs.

Oddly specific thing(s) that brings me Joy

Seeing birds, fishes and insects, or any animals really going about their days. The happy trills of a chick. The way my pigeon puffs up and closes his eyes when I cuddle him. A quiet hike in nature with no one around, or in the middle of the night. Spending some time around my friends, specifically doing an activity together. Hearing someone thought of me. The little black paws of my parents' cat. Petting and hugging things. Live band music. And a few other things but I will stop there hehe.

What smell makes me happy

Earthy, rainy and muted smells I guess. Some food also. Anything that isn't chemical or too prominent. I have a good nose and I hate strong smells. But yeah I mostly know what smells I hate, not what I love heh.

Something I loved as a kid and still secretly do

Huuuh I don't really know? Maybe imagining regular objects as creatures? You know seeing a pair of scissors or a tool or anything really and thinking it looks like a creature of sort by design or the way you can make it move. It's rare but it can still happen from time to time now. I think my affinity for creature design came a bit from that actually, seeing the details in the common and threading it all together to make something believable.

Other things that could count I guess are walking on my toes a lot of the time and sunbathing, which I tend to not do in public (Especially the sunbathing, unless I want someone to assume I'm actually dead on the pavement), but I have no qualm about doing it in private even with close family and friends nearby.

Are you an Early Bird or a Night Owl?

I could say depends. But in my current lifestyle? Night owl, I guess. There is just something so calming when you hit those past midnight hours, where everyone is asleep. no expectations, just you and the night.

But, in the rare mornings when i'm not unmotivated to meet the day, aka when I have fulfilling days, I can hop out of bed, down a glass of water and be functional right away at any hour.

If you work, what is your profession, and do you like it?

I'm a Network Engineer; somewhat. In my humble opinion I still lack a few years of meaningful experience to be comfortably called that, but that's actually my job description so.. The profession is not bad per se but the project I've been working on for the past few years has been kinda miserable, for a lack of a better word, and has sapped a lot of my motivation to work on this field. It's gotten a bit better recently, but I can wait to see it through to the end (whatever that may be).

Anyway, yeah networking and cybersecurity is interesting (I mean I did chose to learn this field of work, even if a bit by default because at the time I was too bad at theoretical math and too depressed to pursue a more scientific field as I would have wanted) but as time goes by I can't stop thinking about switching fields; something way more outdoorsy or active, for starter. It's never too late to change.

Your art is always so full of life, detail and texture! I find myself finding new little details and surprises the longer I look and I adore!

Roughly how long does it take to create a piece of art for you?

On the back of that, what have been some of your favourite pieces you've worked on this year? ::3

Hey Dekkii! hehe I'm glad you like my artworks, hearing someone say they notice and appreciate the little details I put everywhere is always lovely.

Side note: Idk if it's weird but I primarily do it for myself, I sometime go back to older artworks and zoom on them just to check every little thing I was able to cram into it and analyse my linework or coloring ^^'

Oughf, that's a tough question. I don't really pay attention to how long it takes to do what, and I sometime tweak my art style to *try* to go faster (it usually fails) I love my lineart, but why does it have to take sooo long. Simple things like doodles or sketchy portraits takes between 1 to 3 hours I think. For relatively simple or sketchy artworks I can sometimes complete them in one evening if I'm motivated (and most often than not I get to bed.. quite late) so I guess around 5 hours or so. But most of the time it's bigger artworks, and for those it's usually at least two evening minimum I would say so around 10-15 hours minium to idk how much until I get tired of what I'm working on and call it done ahah.

These two artfight attacks where challenging, but I'm quite happy with how they came out overall.

The collab I did with @sappedart was so fun, and I’m proud of my rendering for this one.

This one is not really a piece, but should hopefully become one at some point, I like that design (especially the face) and I should really clean and rework it some day.

Do you have a favorite bird??

Hello Straweepy! Thank you for the excuse to yap about birds hehe.

I can't really say I have A fave bird per se, bird is bird and I love them all; there is so much variety in appearances, behaviour, etc I can't imagine stopping on one only.

But, doesn't mean I can't try to make a list of my fav ones, aka all the birds that comes to mind immediately while answering this x)

Here goes:

Inaccessible Island Rail (Laterallus rogersi) - The most recent bird specie I have learned of. They are perfect in every way: flightless, criminally small, red eye, "inaccessible", well only in name because they live on Inaccessible Island, which is a bit hard to reach I will admit, but my heart goes to them nonetheless.

Common Loon (Gavia immer) - What's not to like, elegant water birds, beautiful both in and out of breeding plumage, lovely parental behaviour, iconic call (that has been wrongly used in a wide variety of films hehe) and just the shape of that bird.

Little Grebe (Tachybaptus ruficollis) - Look at these little guys, what's not to like. Beautiful colors, little water birds, love them.

Read breasted goose (Branta ruficollis) - Brown/copper with white and black, my fav color combination. Very stylish and cute little goose, I actually had the chance to fly with them. Their head shapes is so nice to look at and they are so excitable, they do love flying x)

Eurasian Nuthatch (Sitta europaea) - For more common birds where I live, I cannot pass over these impressively acrobatic little guys, I love seeing them climb trees. Also very good shape.

Eurasian Golden Oriole ( Oriolus oriolus) - Elusive birds, I have yet to see one irl, but boy if I have heard their calls often. There is one that comes every summer to breed near my parent's house, and I can wish for nothing more than to catch a glimpse of that bird one day. But for now I'm just happy to hear it every year. I also did name myself after them (not the English name though).

Western Jackdaw (Coloeus monedula) - I like all corvids, but the jackdaw would be my fav of the family! For one, they are local birds, and the white/grey irises and greyscale on the plumage is always nice. Very fun little guys overall.

Anhinga (Anhinga anhinga) - Non water-proof water birds, I love their behaviors most of all. They hunt submerged, creeping underwater to spear fish. And then spend most of their time sunbathing to dry. How cool is that?

The humble Chicken (Gallus Gallus domesticus), with a soft spot in particular for the Modern Game Bantams breed. Chickens in general are fun, witty birds with lots of personality if you give them the chance they deserve. Raising them has been a joy, and I can wish for nothing more than to own chickens again one day. They do not just eat seeds, and they love to remind you of the fact. There is nothing more humbling than seeing a chicken gobbling down half of a dead mouse or frog in one go. I also love when they chase each other to steal they catch from each others. they make for very good pets, you can cuddle with them. Perfect feathered friends. Also there is small, there is big, and everything in between. Anyway, enough about chickens hehe.
