Had to rewatch episode 5 again to work on Stitch's Lexicon and get that caught up with my efforts on this blog and I noticed this. This right here says a CHUNK about Mertle's family life, I think. I mean, she could have ran to her mother here because her mom was home with her but no. She chose to run to Wendy and Jumba and she's holding Wendy's hand, even though Wendy clearly isn't holding Mertle's. I remember I watched a video essay not that long ago on why Mertle is such a bully and it's making so much more sense now on this rewatch to me.

Edit: A few seconds later, during a closer shot, the animators corrected Wendy not holding Mertle's hand.

Also, Ms. Edmonds never once noticing that the house was temporarily gone around her just adds more to this.

Random hc I have but have grown strangely attached to

Jumba and Mertle's mom are kinda-sorts almost friends (Jumba says acquaintances, Mertle's mom says friends) and they go out and get coffee other week or so, and it was partly insighted by the events of Clip

Mertle's mom thinks he's an absolute hoot and thinks his quirks are great, enjoys having someone outside of her usual suburban mom friends to spend time with

Jumba thinks she's surprisingly good conversation and company but can't bring himself to call her a friend because she's MERTLE'S mom

Mertle is SO frustrated about it obviously, but Lilo's just happy her uncle is making something akin to a friend outside of the 'ohana
