Colorado makes me laugh so much.
This is the main ballot measure for our election this year:
Without raising taxes on anyone making less than 300,000 per year, this measure supports using wealthy taxpayers' money to feed every student in the state. No more income-based school lunches, free food for ALL. Yes. We can all agree that feeding children is important, right?
Colorado has around 3 million registered voters, yet only about half of that voted in this election. That's actually pretty good, considering normally we have around a 25%-35% voter turnout for these small elections. Still, almost 600,000 people voted against this measure.
Surely it was the ultra wealthy, right? All those cities run and lived in by celebrities and CEOs would have voted against it, right?
Wrong. Those blue counties? Some of the poorest counties in the state. Pitkin county, the county with the highest average household income in the state, voted overwhelmingly for the measure
Even Mesa County, the county that went so hard for trump that their county clerk is sitting in prison for tampering with the election, voter fraud, and other bullshit- the county that voted for Boebert twice- voted for this.
Some of it is the "temporarily embarrassed millionaire" mentality and piss poor reading comprehension. But most of it is the good old "I got mine, you fuck off" mentality where these dumbass rednecks don't give a damn about taking care of people, especially not someone else's children. They are the epitome of American individualism, the village doesn't matter.
And I'm so glad they lost. So, so, so glad.
