Hello everyone! I have considered creating a blog for a while now, but I put it off until recently. I've gotten a bit inspired, which, I won't lie, may partially be because of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. Nonetheless, wherever inspiration may come from, I try to channel that energy when it finds me. Writing used to be one of my favorite hobbies back in high school, but I sadly lost the art after graduating. I lost my spark, so to speak. It's saddening because I remember being able to write an essay the night before it was due and still receive an A.
That's another reason why I chose to do this now. It's more productive than scrolling, a good hobby for the mind—something we all need right now. I feel less intelligent every day just sitting on my phone. Anyway, I digress. I'm not entirely sure what I plan to do with this blog, but I am brainstorming. There may be some blurbs, things on my mind. I like to yap (if you can't already tell). I am so excited to get back into writing, finally! I feel I'm at a point in my life where I need a creative outlet big time, so it's time to pick up something new. I'm on a journey of self-discovery, and although this is an outlet for me, I hope that my words can help someone as well.
I figured I'd write a little bit about me, so if you're interested..
About the author:
My name is Rachel (or Rach for short). I am 21, soon to be 22 in a few months! I'm a Gemini, an infp-t, and someone who lives a little too much in her head.
I have a few hobbies besides writing, most of which are also art aligned. Back when I was a kid, I discovered I had a knack for singing, which may surpass my love for writing. Besides singing, I enjoy curating playlists that fit a specific vibe, and I spend hours doing so. I have soo many playlists (maybe too many? nah, you can never have too many). I'm really into fashion, films, and weird art, too. I have a very creative mind, and there are many ways to put it to work, but these are a few things I always come back to. If we listed all my hobbies, we'd be here a while.
Music-wise, I am all over the place. There are a few notable artists that I enjoy listening to the most, though. Sabrina Carpenter, Leonie Biney, Beabadoobe, Stevie Nicks, Billy Joel, and Hozier. I also have an immense soft spot for jazz and blues.
Film and TV-wise, I stick to a few things: supernatural stuff, fantasy, romance, usually something of that sort.
My favorite TV shows are School Spirits, My Babysitter's a Vampire, The 7 Lives of Lea, and the Queen Charlotte Bridgerton story.
Movie-wise, some of my favs are The Substance, We Live In Time, The Greatest Hits, and Jennifer's Body. I really enjoy a campy horror movie, if I'm being real here.
I just wanted to give everyone a small intro about me <3.
I also run the blog @carpentologist, which is my Sabrina Carpenter-related blog! It's fairly new, so bear with me. Anyway, I'm gonna stop rambling for now, but this is only the beginning.
Since the Met Gala was last night and I haven't posted in a while, I thought I'd share some of my favorite looks from the night!
Emma Chamberlain - Wearing a custom Mugler gown hand-painted by Anna Deller-Yee. Honestly, the best look of the night in my opinion. Like she gagged everyone else, this look is incredible. This look was inspired by artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Edvard Munch!! Not only by these two artists though, as Chamberlain was also inspired by her painter father.
Sabrina Carpenter - Wearing a Dior gown designed by Jonathan Anderson. This one has some lore. She's wearing a dress made from film strips from the 1954 film "Sabrina". Audrey Hepburn stars in this movie, and it just so happens that yesterday was Audrey's birthday! (I may be a bit biased because I love Sab, but it was also very interesting). I love all the details and how her mind works!
Isha Ambani - Wearing a gown designed by Gauray Gupta in collaboration with Swadesh. Everything about this is just a yes. Like, it's perfect. The jewels on her dress belonged to her mother!! Not only that, but the mango accessory is a 20-year-old metal sculpture created by renowned Indian artist Subodh Gupta.
SZA - Wearing a gown designed by Emily Adams Bode Aujla of BODE. This is so her, and so glowy, and I love it!! She is radiant in this dress. This gown also includes over 100 yards of vintage fabric sourced from eBay!!
Hunter Schafer - Wearing a Prada gown designed by Miuccia Prada. This was inspired by Gustav Klimt's 1912/1913 painting Mäda Primavesi. Hunter is stunning every single time but she looks like a PRINCESS here.
Anok Yai - Wearing a custom Balenciaga look designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli. Inspired by "Our Lady of Tears". Such an elegant look and her makeup was GORGEOUS but also she's just gorgeous in general!!
LISA - Wearing a custom creation by Robert Wun. She looks like a celestial princess and I'm honestly living for it!! Also, the extra arms are her actual arms, 3D scanned!
Eileen Gu - Wearing a custom Iris van Herpen "Airo" dress. I lovveee this because the dress is essentially a big bubble machine and I think that is just so creative and cute!!!
Doechii - Wearing custom Marc Jacobs. She made my jaw DROP. This is an insane look, it's definitely in my top 3 of the night. I like her riskiness, people who aren't afraid to show some skin!! She's owning this look.
La La Anthony - Wearing a custom Wiederhoeft gown. Also, the hair over the eye?? She said she was going for a ginger Jessica Rabbit and she definitely nailed it!! She is so so beautiful.
I also liked Connor Stories’ look, those muscles were POPPING and he just looked beautiful. but tumblr only allows 10 photos so I couldn’t add him to my list :(
i’ve just started to really comprehend how much i actually went through as a kid and why it’s caused me to be the way i am today. the stuff i do remember, i’m starting to see that none of it was my fault. i honestly can’t remember 75% of my childhood. what i can remember is usually bad memories. i’ve never had anything close to a normal childhood or even a safe space during my childhood. i’ve always felt so behind everyone my age, especially recently, but i was just in survival mode for so long that i never really got to live. now i’m making up for those childhood/teenager years. it’s just crazy that one day you really just wake up and realize all this shit. that what you went through wasn’t normal. that i never deserved any of it, no one does.
so.. i’ve had my jbl 770 live headphones for a while, but i just realized that i can make my own custom equalizer 🤦🏼♀️ i don’t know how i didn’t realize this. i literally hate the defaults. this is literally life changing now it sounds SOOO good since i made my own.
feels like waiting on a storm to arrive; i feel so sick, y'all. i need this to be over with ASAP.
it's honestly funny (and also not) that i get my period, and the week after is like recovery week, so, realistically, i only get two weeks out of the month where i feel somewhat alive. if that, even; sometimes it’s less. my periods have always been awful. it takes a lot out of me whenever it finally hits. i end up looking like i’m wasting away— pale face, walking bent over, sleeping through the first 3 days.
and i have to do this until i’m what, like, 40? i'm so over it at this point 🤦🏼♀️
