So in homestuck we see characters use and be affected by powers that are used in the narrative meta. As such it wouldn’t be much of a stretch that at the most extreme reaches of the aspect, there is the ability to affect the story, and universe in a significant and permanent way. I shall list off all that I can think of reasonably for now, and the cannon examples we see. These can be sorted into Expanding, Contracting, And Correcting effects on the story.
Breath: The Retcon.
As we see from John, Breath players at their most extreme allows for control outside of the medium, free of restrictions. As such they can move freely around said medium and alter events permanently without causing doomed timelines during the timeframe sburb exists (As a time player going back and breaking causality would create, as well they are able to leap dimensions). They could effectively take events and rearrange them, making things happen and others not. This is a Correcting Power, allowing you to fix the story.
Blood: Strict Cannon.
A blood Player at their most extreme could, similar to a breath player, exist outside of the medium and affect the story through that. However, unlike The Retcon, Strict Cannon allows blood players to weave stories that cannot be changed, become true, and only alter outside of the timeframe that sburb takes place in (They can write other universes and sessions into their own though). They, as such, can create bonds and links from plot devices and people. They can write where people meet, and how, and why they would work together. They write the backstory and as such it is impossible to break the bonds this story has on the world without tearing it apart at the seams. This can allow them to write who is the villain, and Who is the hero of the story, affecting everything that comes after. They ARE the villains and we ARE the heroes. Can’t be argued. The Signless Kind of did it, painting lowbloods as victims and Highbloods as oppressive villains. This is a Correcting Power, allowing you to change the focus of who the medium focuses on and who the plot hinges.
Time: Plot Funnels.
As a story progresses, it must eventually come to a conclusion. unfortunately in a story of god figures and immature brats that could not end as they can keep things going forever. We see however, whenever the plot has too many ways to go, and too many options, time players have the ability to take the sheer amount of options and restrict them in a Plot Funnel. Davesprite was from a timeline where the over abundance of options caused every option spawning from that, so he took his time travel powers and cut down the options to enough for the Alpha Dave to manage the timelines. Aradia cut down the options for lil cal, and Damara cut out the options where they don’t scratch, shoving them all through Plot Funnels. Caliborn is the unrequited master at this too. Through sheer determination and massive shenanigans, he had every, Single, option not touched by others to funnel into One single timeline, where he was the victor, became LE, and got to destroy for as long as he wants. All others were destined to fail. This is a Contracting Power, pressing the timelines and the direction into a smaller amount of possibilities in an attempt to end the story.
Space: Plot Scattering.
However, sometimes the story becomes too predictable and there’s no leniency for twists or changes in the plot that makes sense. Whenever this happens A space player or an entity of space gains the power to create options upon options for the plot to move forwards. When Eridan Destroyed the matriorb and killed Kanaya, the options for the plot to move were restricted to extinction. However, Kanaya’s status as a closeted rainbow drinker allowed her to come back to life and kill of Eridan, which created many different ways the plot on the meteor could head after that. Jade also created plot options. When their session was doomed to fail she gathered everyone’s planets, stole a battleship, and took herself, the sprites, and John and moved the plot into a place where it could happen. Calliope Also did this ALL THE TIME. She gave Roxy options for developing her powers. The game over timeline was her making an option for Alt-Callie to take over her brother and as such, to later create options for dealing with LE (as she destroyed the Green sun, creating an open ending instead of the closed one LE wanted, as LE could get damaged by anyone and anything at that point) This is an Expanding Power, allowing the plot to head in many different directions for room to create.
Void: Background Static
When given the chance and the power, void players can effectively void out part of the story. Make it not matter. This allows the void player to come back with many different effects, such as new weapons, abilities, or flat out character development that never happened on screen. Since it happened in the background the reader is left to assume this all happened within reason, so as long as the event is not too insane to need explanation, a void player can leave parts of the story as a mystery, and as such one does not need a plan for many shenanigans. This happened off screen sorry you missed it. We see Roxy undergoing many power buffs through this exact thing, and a Meta void player could intentionally do this. This is an Expanding Power, allowing the characters in the story to develop and power up as other events happen, allowing for different directions in the story.
Light: Camera Work.
Light, the aspect of clarity and significance, clearly relates to what the viewer can see. Normally the camera follows characters during important and entertaining times. The light player could grow to basically become a camera person, shifting the focus from one place to another. This allows other plot lines to have their shenanigans, but the main focus is to force a specific Plot line to have to make sense. Force both ally and enemy to work in a logical sense. While you are watching a part of a game the mechanics have to be constantly present. you Can’t just warp around characters. Shenanigans have to make sense and as such you have to have a plan. Weapons have to have an origin. You can’t just go oh hey this happened when everyone is staring at you. The Battle Vs lord english is an example of great Camera Work, with the camera being locked onto English for the fight, forcing things to work in universe, and as such he can’t just shatter the dream bubble the camera is in. This is a Contracting Power, forcing the plot to remain consistent and keeping things explained.
