Day 40 Guilt Trip From Type 2 Diabetic Her: Can I eat that? (high carb food) Me: If you eat it with protein. Her: What if I’m really hungry? Am I not allowed to eat that? Me: Yes, you can if you pair with a protein source but if eaten alone you blood sugar will spike. Her: I have medicine for that. They diagnosed me with diabetes in 1990 and I’m supposed to take medication if my sugar goes up too high after eating. Me: Yes, that’s true. Because your body does not respond well to eating that food, they do make medicine to lower blood sugar. Her: So, I can eat that then take my medicine. Me: That’s your decision, but all your doctors agreed with me and supported your new eating in a way that allows your blood sugar to stay in healthy range. Her: Huhhh! (High pitched scoff) Me: If you want your body to suffer from the damage and known negative side-effects of the medicine, that’s up to you—go ahead and eat that food. If it was up to me, would rather you choose to save your organs and body from that damage if possible so that you live a higher quality of life. Her: Tuhh...
