Federation Force spoilers (a real thing that can happen), but my new headcanon for the Samus boss fight is that the mind-control was entirely a body-puppeting situation, and the way the pirates messed up was using morph ball in the first place. I like the headcanon that Samus uses astral projection to control the ball while her body is energy, and so in using morph ball, the pirates inadvertently brought Samus back to consciousness while they were puppeting her body. Cue Samus wrecking the pirates immediately after. This is also why Samus is able to break her way out of a rock collapse.

My other headcanon is the pirates only captured her because she was suffering from long-term side effects/tiredness of phazon corruption (despite the phazon being gone but like viruses take a toll on your body, think similar to that). Unfortunately for the space pirates, it's Samus Aran, and she was too much of a threat to break down mentally, so they just "brainwashed" her (body puppetering). This is probably mother brain's doing, as FF is before her return in Super.

Wake up folks it’s time for some new Metroid headcanons!

1) I once saw someone notice how the Chozo Memories of Samus Returns seem to imply that the Chozo accidentally found the X while digging into the planet. As in they clearly weren’t on the surface or in the upper areas of the planet, otherwise the Chozo would’ve encountered them way earlier, and I agree, I’ve always found it weird how Fusion and later Dread depict the X as incredibly voracious and quick to reproduce and yet SR388 wasn’t an X infested hell hole when the Chozo first went there.

However I wanted to follow up on that

See one of my personal pet peeves about the X is that their 2 main characteristics, their insatiable hunger and the speed with which they can infect a huge number of creatures, doesn’t mesh very well: if a predator is completely unmatched and can kill so much prey in so little time they will eventually run out of food and cause their own extinction. The only time we ever see the X pass up on an opportunity to chow is when they “spared” the Etecoons and Dachoras, though Adam hypothesizes that it’s because they considered them useless, not due to any desire to conserve food for later consumption.

My personal headcanon is that the X are an ancient lifeform belonging to the primordial era of SR388. Back than the X had more natural predators capable to fend them off keeping the food chain balanced. After several cataclysmic events not unlike those our own planet has faced (Ice ages, asteroid impacts, super volcanoes erupting etc) the X hid undergound where they went into a dormant state for millenia, until the Chozo accidentally unearthed them and woke them up.

The ironic thing, to me, is that had the X kept going they would’ve run out of food quickly, as the modern lifeforms of SR388 hadn’t evolved any means to counter the X, unlike those of prehistoric times.

2) Samus’ suit can defend her immune system from diseases and infections due to it being bound to her body, however it also responds negatively to human, and non-Chozo in general, medicine, as it recognizes it as a potential threat to her organism. Samus has modified the suit to include human medicine within the “acceptabòe” substances.

3) Ridley’s constant defeats at the hands of Samus have cost him the respect of High Command. By the time of Super Metroid he is mostly just a general in name only, as he is no longer given any actual troops to command, like in Zero Mission, and he is ordered to be Mother Brain’s obedient little dog following her every whim as punishment for his failures

How bout a Yandere cloning Samus Aran headcanon?

(I've never played Metroid so sorry if this is bad ^^")

After Ridley destroyed her entire planet and species, Samus found a cloning machine which she used to repopulate a new inhabitable planet. Due to splitting in the machine, she became a hivemind with several bodies.

Whilst a squad of Samus were journeying across the vast galaxy to find the space pirates to enact revenge, they encountered you and immediately fell inlove.

They are practically a hivemind so traits in the usual yandere Samus are very similar to the clone Samus.

In general, they are overprotective and possessive, highly preferring to keep you on their home planet surrounded by themselves. They can keep you best protected where they can all be around you.

Among herselves, jealousy isn't common place. Despite being so many clones, her being a hivemind makes it so she's basically one person enhabiting several billions of identical bodies.

She doesn't allow anyone who isn't you onto the planet. She doesn't trust anyone to even come planets length within you. Yes, she's that overprotective of you.

Affection isn't entirely common. You get hugs and kisses often but they're usually overshadowed by the fact every Samus acts as if you're royalty. They are all your dear servants who will protect and serve you with their lives.

When they eventually take out the space pirates, they'll begin to inhabit more planets and expand their 'species' to better keep you safe and let you explore more vast and exotic planets under their protection and watch...keeping you safe is what they love most...

M’kay, so with the fresh excitement in the air from the Direct news, now seems like a good time to tell people about my fun little maybe hot take of a headcanon for the Metroid timeline! So, a while back, I was on the Metroid Database reading all of the mangas and comics it has to offer, y’know, as you do! One of the comics I came across was a comic version of Metroid Prime, and well, let’s just say a couple o’ panels caught my attention…..

This implies that Super Metroid already happened, contradicting the primarily accepted headcanon that all Prime games happened in between Metroids 1 and 2, AND breaking the secondary theory that the 2d games and Prime games are alternate universes without ANY game overlap! I know this comic isn’t canon, but when I think about this with how Prime and Fusion were released on the EXACT SAME DAY, the coincidences are too overwhelming!

So my theory? There are two timelines/universes. In one universe, we have the Samus that went through the Zero Mission and Samus Returns versions of the first two games, as well as Other M, Fusion and Dread. This timeline has the X Parasite, Adam, Raven Beak, etc!

In the other, we have the Samus whose first two games were the original NES and Gameboy versions, as well as the Prime games! The first thing that seems to set this timeline apart is the lack of X Parasite, which means the origins of the Metroids are shrouded in more mystery. Speaking of shrouded in mystery, while we do know Prime!Samus went through relatively similar origins to Fusion!Samus based on this panel-

-much less is explicitly shown or stated. Furthermore, the deviation from Fusion and Prime implies that any lore introduced in Other M, Fusion, Dread, and any other game not tied to the Prime games post-Super straight up doesn’t exist in this timeline! In other words, there is no Adam, no Raven Beak, no Metroid DNA infusion!

Speaking of Super, while this is the game that has the most overlap between the two timelines/universes, there is one altercation between the two universes that is the final proof of their distinction: the Animals! In Fusion, the Etecoons and Dachoras are shown to be alive, while in Prime, they’re nowhere to be seen! Therefore, I theorize that the Fusion vs Prime timeline, in regards to Super, is the classic Save vs “Kill” the Animals!

DISCLAIMER: This is NOT saying that the Animals are X-Parasites, nor that they caused the X-Parasite! While that is a possible interpretation of the events, I personally am listing the X vs No X and Animals vs No Animals as separate points! I’m also not stupid enough to think that the existence of characters like Adam or Raven Beak all comes down to whether or not Samus walks into a specific room and blows up a wall in a single game! What I’m referring to is more of a Butterfly Effect situation than anything else!

Of course, this is just scratching the surface of my headcanons of the Metroid timeline! I haven’t even gotten to all my crack ideas for how other canon-adjacent content might fit into lore (i.e. Samus and Joey, Captain N, etc), but I already feel like a conspiracy nut with a murder board of strings as is! Now, is this really that deep? No. Do I think this is what Nintendo has intended? Absolutely not! So why am I thinking all of this?

I have a few reasons. One, I really love the additional comics and mangas, obviously! Two, as I mentioned before, the “Fusion-Prime release date” is too much of a coincidence to not hyperfixate on! Three, the Prime events have been going on so long that trying to fit them between the first two games would be a tighter fit than Samus in the Morph Ball! Four, throughout the 2D & OM games, Fusion!Samus monologues SO MUCH about her past that it looks awfully suspicious that she NEVER mentions the Prime game events!

But the real reason I’m grasping for this theory, the petty and childish motive that has driven this whole rabbit hole, is that it would NOT be fair if THIS-

-and THIS-

-were the SAME timeline! It just would not be fair! I don’t CARE if she loses the abilities by the end of the game, her lesbian energy would shatter the universe if these occurred in the same version of the character! So, for the sake my own sanity, and to appease my indulgent desires, I’m just going to cope by telling myself I have two cakes! Okay? Okay! Good talk!

Samus has a cold vengeful streak. Sure, she does what she does to keep little girls like her from having to endure the torment of losing everyone and everything they ever loved, but there's a part of her that enjoys cracking skulls. There's a part of her that she'd never admit to that yearns to make the Space Pirates suffer as much as they made her suffer. There's a part of her that takes great pleasure in their fear of her, in the legend she's cultivated for herself among their people.

They were the monsters that haunted her childhood.

She is the monster that will haunt them for generations.

I hear you have Metroid headcanons? 👀

I have both a small cute one and a big wacky one!

The small cute headcanon is that, after the events of Metroid Fusion, Samus took the Etecoons and Dachoras to some scientists so that there could be some record of these species, and then, because there aren't enough of them left to survive long-term, she took them in and cares for them between missions.

My big wacky Metroid headcanon is that the series not only exists in the same universe as the Kirby series, but that Phazon is a manifestation of Void Termina's power comparable to Dark Matter. The Leviathan Seeds are equivalent to the Dark Matter orb guys, including the Dark Matter Swordsman. And Phaaze itself is equivalent to Zero and Dark Star.

The Metroid Prime trilogy even mirrors the Dark Matter trilogy in some ways. In Prime 1, it seems like phazon is only affecting the region around the Impact Crater, similar to how in KDL2, Dark Matter Swordsman is specifically affecting just the Rainbow Isles. Then, the following games have their respective antagonistic forces enveloping an entire planet (Aether and Popstar), and then the third game includes several different planets, culminating with a final showdown in a planet made of phazon/dark matter.

I know they aren't exactly the same, but I think it's fun to view these trilogies as parallel stories. :)
