Pixel Hero Isolation (Codenamed PHI) is the next installment of the Pixel Hero series starring fearless bounty hunter Sarah Aaron as she hunts down the ruthless Space Pirate Ripley to the farthest reaches of known space to a long forgotten planet, Zerees. Among the ruins an ancient evil slumbers, sealed away many millennia ago by the mysterious and supposedly extinct Prozo race. And on top of all of this you have a rampant AI and a mysterious Alien running about. Pretty standard odds for a bounty this big and the chance at revenge...
What You Should Know:
Is this related to Pixel Hero Prologue and VR Missions? Yes and no. Isolation takes place many years after these events, but takes place in the same universe. There’ll probably be a few connections to JACKAL in the events that transpire and those who followed the lore of VR closely will pick up on the connections.
Is the gameplay similar? As of the “Combat Evolved” patch for VR Missions (coming soon), yes it’s very similar. That said each Pixel Hero has its own flavor to match their protagonist, so Stealth will likely not be as heavy an element. But worry not, Sarah has quite a few interesting gadgets up her sleeve (not to mention the Morph Ball).
Will it be free? 100% yes! We’ll likely be setting up some sort of collector’s edition (which will cost money) that also comes with the Soundtrack and a small PDF designs work. But the game itself and all its content will always be free (with extra suits for as low as 99 Cents! Just kidding, we’re not that mercenary)
When will it be out? October 4th... Maybe... This is meant to be part of the Metroid Jam so you can
I have ‘X’ question about the lore or the characters...
Well you’re in luck because I’ll go over a brief text preview of some of the major factions and characters!
Lore Preview:
PHP is mainly inspired by the likes of Metal Gear, Deus Ex, Street Fighter and even Silent Hill. PHI on the other hand takes us to a very different setting, mostly inspired by Metroid, Dead Space, Alien, Starcraft and just a hint of Halo.
Some of the notable characters include:
Sarah Aaron - A famous bounty hunter with an arsenal of gadgets at her side (based off Samus Aran from Metroid)
Ripley - A Spice Pirate with an affinity for genetic splicing and cybernetics (based off of Ridley from Metroid)
Luis Abraham - Technician and Repair man, Luis was contracted to help restore the research facility on Zerees, little did he know he was working for some of the most ruthless outlaws in the galaxy (based off Isaac Clarke from Dead Space)
Kraig - Ripley’s second in command, a cowardly but effective pirate (Based of Kraid from Metroid)
The Prozo - An ancient race whose ghostly remnants and ruins haunt the planet of Zerees (Based off the Protoss from StarCraft and a hint of the Chozo from Metroid)
The Infestation - A mysterious parasite that transforms all life into necrotic beasts. Small outbreaks have been sited at various dig sites around Known Space, Zerees is rumored to be one of these.
The Xenos - A highly advanced race from the far reaches of the galaxy. Some know them as the swarm or simply refer to them as bugs. Even one of these highly advanced creatures can kill with brutal efficiency. (Based off the Zerg from Starcraft and the Xenomorphs from Alien)
There’s also quite a few characters who I won’t spoil but that’s your little taste of the lore. Horror is going to play a slightly bigger role in this installment, specifically that sense of being horribly out-gunned or under equipped, making exploration that much more important. You’ll also only be able to save at specific terminals to keep with this atmosphere. Not to worry though, there’ll be plenty of Prozo artifacts to help you along the way.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this little taste and can’t wait to release more art, pre-builds and even a track or two!
Well, I’ve given up on Insanity Jam 4 (my game was just too boring to stay focused), so here’s where I’m starting for the Metroid Jam! The model is modified from this base on OpenGameArt. I still have a long way to go (that face is really bad! D: Not to mention that there’s no detail...), but I think I should be able to do it. Maybe having an extra couple months will help. :P
My idea for the Metroid Jam is “Metroid: Braintap”: Samus crash lands on a strange planet and her Varia suit is destroyed. While she searches for the parts necessary to repair her ship, she discovers equipment that fuses into her Zero suit and gives her the ability to manipulate the world around her with her mind. It’ll be a low-poly (obviously) 2.5D side scroller with the approximate playstyle of Super Metroid, except with a mouse and keyboard.
So yeah, that should be fun! Hopefully I’ll be able to at least get something working by October! :)
