☁️ impromptu everlark gardening headcanons 🌿

after the war, encouraged by the success of the flower garden around the front of the house (especially the beloved primroses) the pair starts a fruit and vegetable garden around back 🌳

blueberry bushes carefully netted to keep the birds out 🫐

red strawberries 🍓 harvested with Madge’s memory in mind, made into preserves

cucumbers 🥒 made into a fresh summer salad with homemade mayonnaise, dill and onions

fat butternut squashes and pumpkins made into soup and casseroles in autumn 🍂

potatoes kept in a little wood box in the pantry, smothered in butter and roasted to golden perfection, served with goat cheese from town, and sweet potatoes made into pies 🥧

and if and when they decide to relocate to their Mellark House in the Big Woods, they carefully transplant their crops, and their beloved flowers, and soon the small cottage by the river is overrun with vines and bushes and blossoms 🌻
