The thing about Simon is that once it's revealed he's still alive and an agent of Vermeil, you kind of worry there's going to be something cliche going on. We've seen this type of stuff before and I don't know if I'm interested in seeing it happen with Simon. But then he's barely able to keep himself from crying the whole time. His attempt to tell the main character he never cared about them is hilariously responded with, "Don't lie to me!" The one time they almost have a battle, Simon freaks out when Ratha V aims at the main character and tries to pull back. And then you remember that when he thought he would die, he chose to die for the main character with a smile on his face.
So he was a spy! But he was a kind of bad one.
