OKAY i’m just going to try and pull all these convos into one place for convenience. Man what Tumblr needs is threaded convos like LJ, ugh. But anyway! Continuing convos spawned from this post. First from scrawlers, I’m just going to grab relevant bits here and there from your post if that’s okay. :o PS: you should TOTALLY PLAY AAI2 IT’S SUPER GREAT and again being as vague as possible, the ending/final battle is NOTHING like AAI’s, so don’t worry.
For the DLC case in DD though, I’d say that’s a completely different circumstance because that wasn’t exactly murder. I don’t want to spoil this for anyone either, but while this term never comes up in Ace Attorney, what happened there is a lot closer to involuntary manslaughter, which at least IRL carries an entirely different weight than murder. So while he didn’t get the death penalty for that, I think it was more the circumstances that allowed for him to live. Thinking about it, Dee Vasquez probably didn’t get the death penalty either, since what happened in “Turnabout Samurai” wasn’t really murder in the end, either. (Then again, she also has other crimes on top of it, so … who knows.)
This is true! I’ve actually wondered myself if the AA universe even HAS manslaughter on the books - practically everything in 1-3 was manslaughter as you said, though that didn’t seem to stop anyone. The thought of getting accused of manslaughter was enough to terrify Jack into doing whatever Dee wanted for years though, which makes me assume he didn’t think it’d go well for him in court. Which doesn’t really help my case very much, aheh. BUT I do wonder if AA even recognizes manslaughter at all.
I honestly cannot answer this one, because I do not remember. Although it is possible that he asked for solitary, I’m not sure they’d just grant him that? I mean, he is in prison, you’d think he wouldn’t get special treatment … but then again his cell is pretty fancy, so who knows. :P Even so, though, Morgan not only committed murder outright, but she also had conspiracy to commit murder later, so I would be really surprised if she was just moved and didn’t get the death penalty, considering that, again, Lana Skye was originally going to get it for her own (and was only able to take a plea when the “second” murder at the precinct was brought to light). So even if Kristoph did specifically ask for that cell, I find it hard to believe Morgan was spared, though I guess we have no way to know for sure on that one. :/
I don’t remember if he specifically mentions his cell, but I’m ALMOST positive he does say that all his books and fancy chairs and nonsense (his pet bird??) were a result of him pulling in a lot of favors and such. And he was apparently sitting in solitary like, immediately after he got arrested, so my guess is that’s precisely where he wanted to be. If I remember right he also heard a lot of gossip around the prison about what was going on outside which again makes me think he had a fairly amiable relationship with most of the people there, probably due to his long reputation as a good guy (maybe he genuinely helped a bunch of those people... or at least made sure they owed him in case something like this happened). BACK TO MORGAN man dang if she’s dead Pearl never even mentions it, how sad. Maybe she is going to get the chop but she’s still waiting for it to be carried out so they moved her (like you said, maybe the dark age of the law ended up with so many people getting the death penalty that it takes ages for any of them to have it carried out). IT’S HARD TO SAY.
I feel like if Klavier appealed it, it would take time for him to come around to that, because I feel like he’d want a lot of answers, first. Kristoph hurt him pretty badly, and while I doubt Klavier wants his brother dead, I also feel like there would have to be some sort of healthy communication between them, too–and if Klavier feels like he has nearly a decade before judgment day, I feel like he might purposely drag his feet some to try and force answers from Kristoph. (Not that it would help him much.)
Entirely possible! Klavier would have pretty mixed feelings towards Kristoph, but even as bad as they could get, I don’t think he’d want to see him dead. Haha I can see Kristoph choosing death just to spite him, and Klavier choosing to appeal his sentence repeatedly just to spite him back in return. This could play out in a lot of interesting ways! I’d love to see more fic take on this idea.
To that end, Phoenix recently learned what black psyche-locks represent, so if nothing else, I imagine he will want answers, too. You know how Phoenix is, if someone needs help, he can’t resist. So if anything, I could imagine him jumping in for a surprise appeal, while everyone else is like “WTF YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS” and Edgeworth is just sighing off to the side like “no I’ve known him since he was nine believe me he is serious there’s no stopping him now.” But this is also speculation, who knows what AA6 has in store for us.
I LOVE THIS IDEA OMG I REALLY WANT THIS TO HAPPEN but man I have serious doubts Kristoph will ever show up again or we’ll ever get answers about anything about him or his relationships with the THREE MAIN CHARACTERS HE’S SUPPOSEDLY SO CLOSE TO THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING but oh well.
As for Machi/Daryan, bardic-feline says “Machi ended up confessing to the smuggling while in Japanifornia both to get cleared of murder AND to get out of being sent home to be charged for smuggling there where he WOULD have been executed. Daryan was charged in the US, too… So no reason for him to be tried under Borginian law for the smuggling either. As for the murder…his crime seemed to be pretty impulsive, so maybe they could work it down to manslaughter for not being premeditated?“ and I’m going to leave that to her cause I barely remember that case. |D
QUERCUS DID TAKE FOREVER but plz don’t let that turn you off AAI2 because it’s super great and I really loved it, more people should play it. But yeah I think the most likely out for Kristoph is to have it appealed and then to hopefully get the whole death penalty thing repealed during the waiting period, thus saving everyone if possible.
feelthesarcasm - “My headcanon has always been that Edgeworth being Chief Prosecutor now actually wanted to do away with the death penalty after Blackquill became so close to being wrongfully executed and his history with Von Karma and wrongful convictions.”
This makes total sense, I could absolutely buy this happening.

I would also add that: A. Kristoph seems to have a lot of money/influence and given the corruption of the system I can see him weaseling his way out of the death penalty somehow. And B. His verdict was decided by a jury; if I'm not mistaken, doesn't the jury decide the sentence as well? It's possible the jury, knowing they were judging on a feeling and not concrete evidence (or just from being uninformed, which sadly happens on juries), went easier.
Yeah Kristoph is LOADED (for some reason? he was apparently a very successful attorney even before he rigged the trial with klavier, considering how much cash he forked over for the forgery back then. where did he get it? it makes it even weirder that he felt like he had to rig the trial) and he already has a super fancy comfortable cell all to himself from his favors and such, and the Judge and one can guess most people in the system seem to treat him with respect or owe him things. He could use that to at least delay his sentence getting carried out if he wanted to, probably. Though could he get it completely overturned? I’d have to look into how one would appeal for a different sentence, haha.
The jury thing is also so vague, I wonder if AA juries just decide verdicts and the judge decides sentence or if they do both. If the jury decided to give him the death penalty though I can see Kristoph absolutely NOT accepting that and doing everything in his power to get it overturned though, haha. NO I WILL NOT HAVE COMMON PEASANTS ORDERING ME TO DEATH, I REFUSE
