Nancy Mace Claims Kamala Harris 'Doesn't Know What A Woman Is' In Train Wreck CNN Appearance

Mace squirmed and tried to dodge a "yes or no" question on Donald Trump's attacks of Harris' racial identity in an off-the-rails TV moment.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) attacked Kamala Harris’ womanhood while she declined to condemn Donald Trump’s racist attacks toward the vice president in a chaotic appearance on a CNN panel that went off the rails Thursday. Mace repeatedly mispronounced Harris’ name and declared that she would say her name “anyway that I want to” before Michael Eric Dyson, a professor in African American studies at Vanderbilt University, described her remarks as “disgusting.” “You know what, you know what’s disgusting to women is her disrespect of women,” Mace said. “She doesn’t know what a woman is. And 25 years ago—” “White women don’t have the ability to tell Black women who paid the price of blood to make this country what it is to tell them they’re not real women,” Dyson said. Mace’s ridiculous claim arrived after Dyson said the congresswoman’s “anyway that I want to” remarks stemmed from “the history and legacy of white disregard for the humanity of Black people.” “Oh, so now you’re calling me racist?” Mace said. “I didn’t say—” Dyson replied before the two sparred on the CNN panel. Mace doubled down on her mispronunciation of Harris’ name. Sociolinguistics professor Nicole Holliday told HuffPost last month that right-wingers are botching the vice president’s name “on purpose,” noting that it could be taken as a way to show that “you’re not really for her” politically.

[...] Democratic strategist Keith Boykin then pressed Mace to “just say yes” before saying that she was in a “cult” with her leader being the former president. “The fact that you talk to women this way is ridiculous,” Mace said. “You just talked about a Black woman that way,” replied Boykin as Phillip attempted to wrap up the program. “In what way? She doesn’t know what a woman is,” said Mace as she doubled down on her insult.

No one who has heard the Black Hebrew Israelites on big-city street corners with megaphones in hand can deny the racial trauma they cantankerously amplify or ignore the Black suffering, from slavery to the present day, from which they desperately seek relief. Nor can we overlook the hateful sentiments and relentless stream of antisemitic rhetoric that fall obscenely from their lips.

Sitting right alongside varieties of Black antisemitism is a redemptive variety of philosemitism that can only be called Jew envy. I have heard such envy in barbershops, pool halls, churches and clubs across the nation. Black folk often praise Jews — for their unity and, above all, for their ability as a people who account for less than 2.5 percent of the U.S. population to successfully make their way in the world with perceived entrepreneurial success and cerebral accomplishments that many Black folk admire and covet.

Jewish unity is likely more myth than fact; Jews, after all, have competing factions, just as African Americans do. Some are conservative, some liberal, some Orthodox, some traditional, some postmodern. Whatever wealth, privilege and influence Jews have built, there is also a history of persecution and the generational trauma carried by the families of Holocaust victims and survivors. And relentless antisemitic attacks have had an impact on all Jews, up to the present day. All Jews, regardless of wealth, are threatened by the vicious antisemitism that has been spread in dangerous networks of white supremacy.

Today, from Aretha’s funeral. The eulogy delivered by MIchael Eric Dyson. Who’s he? An academic, author, preacher, and radio host. He is a Professor of Sociology at Georgetown University.

The whole 13+ minutes is worth a listen. But if you go to 9:00 and listen, you’ll hear one pissed off preacher describing to us trump in ways trump has never been described and will never be described again.

I also like his line, “Tap lightly, like a woodpecker with a headache.”
