Gilmore Girls: Taylor Doose [ESFJ 1w2]
MBTI Type: ESFJ Taylor is a caricature of an unhealthy Fe-dom in that he is forever trying to organize the community for social events, and gets super peeved at anyone who has a difference of opinion or refuses to go along with the group consensus; he sees that as being a party pooper and launches various attempts to force them to change their feelings or their mind and get on board with…

Gilmore Girls 5x04 - Tippecanoe and Taylor Too (2004)
Gilmore Girls
The towns people
(Writing about each of them is too exhausting)
The semi regular characters of The show & residents of Stars Hollow are often amusing, charming, witty, and incredibly tiring.
Most of the time I liked them but sometimes they were too much. They had a Hive Mind that got on my nerves.
When Rory dates, they always judge. They think (toxic & controlling) Dean is an All American god that can do no wrong.
They hated Jess when he arrived because Lorelai hated him. Then they discover he’s a cynical wise ass that doesn’t want to talk to the adults... shocker! 😱 who knew a teenager could be like that? 🤔
They are overly nosy. About everything. I get that’s part of a small town charm but it was cute at the beginning. Not by the end of the series. I wish some of them would just learn to care less about gossip and seeing things as black and white. I wanted a little evolution for them too.
Taylor was most exhausting of all. I wish we got to see him with a friend or partner that helps tame him so he’s not so neurotic. Maybe hand over some control to someone else. To you know, show growth?
My biggest pet peeve actually is with how they idolized the Gilmores and basically shunned Jess.
Lorelai may be witty & hardworking but she also shut her family out of her life for years. Even when they were in their lives she often kept things from them. Yet no one in Stars Hollow saw that as a bad thing? That’s next level idolatry there....ignoring her (and Rory’s) faults like that isn’t friendship. It’s hero worship. Definitely unhealthy. Real friends would have tried to get Lorelai to have (even limited) contact with her family.
Jess came into town as a teenager and the town already hated him. The first time he did something less than desirable they were like ‘Lorelei’s right he’s a bad seed’. Using any excuse to hate him because Lorelai didn’t like him. ...but he was a teenager. A whole town doing that to a kid who did nothing wrong is really bad.
The town is definitely not friendly to new people. When Lorelai & Christopher were married the townspeople act weird & fake. Seriously I know someone who married a guy who didn’t meet any of her friends or family first & they were still friendly & supportive. And much of the town met Christopher once or twice before. Even if they didn’t, who cares? He was being friendly to them & they were cringing at it!
And when he’s adjusting to the small town life, trying to hang out with Jackson & trying to be friendly & chatty with Babette etc they acted like he pissed in their cereal. At the knit-a-thon he didn’t get that he should have waited until the end of the event to donate to the bridge but his heart was in the right place (everyone was saying they might give up because they were cold & hands cramping up- that was when he donated...to make sure they reached their goal even if people had to leave). They looked annoyed & even a couple seemed angry about it.
Some town 🙄
I think that was the most irritating thing to me. Anyone new weren’t allowed to make mistakes. The town hated them for it. They loved ‘perfect Dean’ though...ironically enough as he was very controlling & I always thought he might end up being anusive to a partner if his. Lots of red flags there.
It says something though when the ‘charming town’ & ‘loveable’ main characters annoy me lol
Even with their faults they did come together as a community & provided lots of amusing scenes though.
Gilmore Girls reference #345
Season 1 Episode 14: That Damn Donna Reed
This is a reference to the play/movie “The Music Man.” Ya Got Trouble is the name of a song in it. Some of the lines of the song are “Ya got trouble, my friend, right here, I say, trouble right here in River City.” It’s about a corrupt traveling salesman who convinces the population of small town that a newly installed pool table is going to make the kids go down a wrong path. He does this so he can sell them band instruments as a good distraction for the kids. Take the town’s money and then ditch the town without actually ordering the instruments.
Bonus Fact: The gazebo in Gilmore Girls is the same gazebo used in The Music Man.
