there is some ideas that if The Office came out today rather than 2009 the “cancel” culture of social media would immediately hate the pilot. while there are some that can argue that, especially because of the offensiveness that’s filled in the first episode. I feel like it’s good that we’ve been able to progress and realize that yeah those jokes, while they were funny, are super offensive.
Micheal’s character himself though, i think the goal of the writers was that although in his eyes he believed he was a hip, progressive, relatable boss. Those ideals often turned into annoyance of his employees that made him look like the worse boss ever. That itself is what made it’s humor, the fact that Micheal was clueless that they allowed him to be cocky because he was their boss.
