we’ve seen the gallagher family suffer so much i just hope at the ends we’ll get like 5 episodes with them just being happy.........;;;;; just imagine watching ian and mickey being happy with kids
in 4x7, mickey, one of the greediest characters in the show, leaves behind 100 dollars when he sees that ian has passed out.
i’m not saying it’s not twisted and fuked and ugly, but it’s love.
Ok Shameless, you guys did good
MICKEY AND IAN THOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fic Rec: May 23
(For Project Love Up Fanfic Writers)
For the first time in my whole (admittedly sporadic) participation in this month of dispensing fanfic writer love, I finally get to rec a fic for my actual OTP. This list of excellent fics I’ve been telling you about has been bereft of any Shameless recs. Let’s change that, shall we? Today’s fic:
“It’s All For You” by mickian; Shameless US, Ian/Mickey, teen
One of the most heartbreaking scenes for this couple- a pair of rough-and-tumble teenagers from Chicago’s South Side who have been carrying on something of a relationship (though not a terribly official one) since Season 1- is in Season 4, Episode 11. In that episode, Mickey comes out in front of everyone at his son’s christening party, including his deeply homophobic father and manipulative wife- because Ian, fed up with his denial of both their relationship and his own homosexuality, threatens to leave him if he doesn’t openly declare who he is. This scene, while it has its funny moments, always makes me sad because it’s essentially suicide for Mickey. He doesn’t know how well anyone in the room will react to this news; in fact, he knows several who will take it badly. His desperation not to lose Ian (again- Ian walked away once in Season 3 as well) results in him making what could turn out to be a very poor choice, but which ends up working out well in the end (at least for the time being).
Of course, fans and fic writers from this fandom flocked to the scene, especially because we see very little of the post-coming out recovery. I probably read a dozen fics contemplating what happened after the events of 4x11. This one, undoubtedly, was one of the best. Mickian gets both Ian and Mickey’s voices so right that it’s uncanny. The fic is infused with all the pain and worry and confusion and finally-acknowledged feelings that these two characters are experiencing in the episode itself. And Mickey’s assessment of his new situation, as he thinks about things at the end of the fic, always makes me want to cry- because it plays so directly into his fear, how he didn’t want to do this but he feared what he would lose by letting Ian go even more than he feared what his dad would do to him if he found out. He’s one of the most complex characters in this series, and one of the ones I feel the most sympathy for. This fic captures both of them wonderfully.
1 more week of fic recs- let’s see how many more I’ll actually get around to doing in that time!

I usually refrain from saying stuff like this, but I REALLY need Showtime’s Shameless to hire some gay male writers/editors and let them have input on the actions of Mickey and Ian.
Not so they can take over the Mickey/Ian storyline, but for them to prevent illogical, borderline offensive shit like Mickey (who is openly and happily gay) fucking a random woman out of frustration over his male lover leaving.
Even though I believe the cheating is OOC for Mickey, I recognize that it would not be completely nonsensical IF the person he was fucking was a guy due to Mickey being openly and happily gay (which I assume is a little known fact in the writer’s room).
