Gennady Golovkin-Danny Jacobs enter a Purse Bid

WBA President Gilberto Mendoza recently extended a pre purse-bid negotiation deadline of Oct. 12 to the representatives of Gennady Golovkin and Danny Jacobs. The camp of "regular" middleweight champion Danny Jacobs (32-1 29 KO) has voiced heated objections concerning the sanctioning body's "75/25" split rule which allocates the lion's share of the purse (75%) to its "super" champion.

 Jacobs' attorney Leon Margules petitioned the WBA to reconfigure the purse split to a 60/40 ratio, with his client receiving 40 percent.  Mendoza stated that the WBA's executive committee has voted on the matter, but refused to reveal the panel's decision. 

 Concerning the financial particulars, Mendoza told the L.A. Times: 

 "If they can reach an agreement by Oct. 12, we just ask for contracts. If they can't, I'll call for a purse bid within ten days (of Oct. 12) and we'll then release what they decided." 

 In the event a purse bid is avoided, HBO would likely air the unification bout on its PPV platform Dec. 10 from Madison Square Garden. WBA Middleweight "Super" Champion Gennady Golovkin, 36-0 (33 KO) is bar-none the premium cable network's premiere attraction. 

 If, however, negotiations fail, rival powerhouse boxing-outlet Showtime is waiting in the wings. Representatives for Showtime expressed keen interest in holding the fight at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. 

 Furthermore, Showtime Executive Vice President Stephen Espinoza asserted his brand "Is definitely interested (in the fight) and will aggressively pursue."

 The 29-year-old Brooklyn native Jacobs, a cancer survivor, won his portion of the WBA Middleweight crown in 2014 with a devastating knockout of Jarrod Fletcher. Since that time, the once-beaten campaigner has defended his trinket four times, with an impressive late-2015 TKO of Peter "Kid Chocalete" Quillin.

 Conversely, 34-year-old Gennady Golovkin appeared mortal in halting 147 lb. titleholder Kell Brook in September. Though the Kazakhstan native has fustigated his past 22 opponents via stoppage, he has showcased tell-tale signs of skill erosion. 

 While Golovkin is the unquestioned "A-side" in this encounter, Quillin would represent GGG's toughest challenge to date.

 The Golovkin vs. Jacobs purse-bid controversy has prompted Mendoza to begin eliminating his sanctioning body's current two-tier champion setup. When reached for comment, Mendoza had these statements regarding the maligned practice:

 "We were doing it like gold, silver, and bronze but the fans don't like it, and we considered the criticism of the media. I don't want to affect the integrity and prestige of being a champion -- boxing already has more sanctioning bodies and champions than it needs."

 Indeed, within the sports' convoluted alphabet soup of sanctioning bodies, a glut of non-qualified fighters can claim championship status. Hopefully, Mendoza will remain true to his word by eliminating this blunder currently plaguing his association. 

 And lastly, for both fans of boxing and boxing itself, hopefully, Golovkin and Jacobs' -- the division's two top fighters -- camps can reach an agreement to crown a rightful WBA middleweight champion.

So It's finally happened

Anderson Silva has finally been dethroned. He might of been able to remain champion, but he was way too egotistical, even heading into this fight. I'm still in shock though.

I will actually dance and cheer when Anderson Silva either looses a fight (be it for the title or not) OR if/when he retires!

No one fully understands why I do not like this man! :D
