Sacred Place by Tre Jenkins
Many people have sacred places, often without knowing so. It could be a favorite place; a place you look to for sanctuary. If you ask most people about where their sacred place is, you’re almost guaranteed a few seconds of thought, maybe even a question of what the word “sacred” means. Some people have never considered any place sacred. I am not other people.
There is one place I think of as sacred. One place that fills me with nostalgia. One place that always jogs happy, joy-filled memories. That place is my Aunt Sabria’s backyard. I think I speak for more than just myself when I say this.
My aunt’s backyard is probably one of the best places I’ve ever been. It’s huge, and has a wood behind it. It’s on a slope, along with the house, that makes races always exciting. My aunt lives in Maryland, so there’s always a special occasion when I’m there. Her backyard is a place of gathering, but more importantly, it’s a place of life.
