#the pink panther returns #1975 #films i done watched #blake edwards #peter sellers #christopher plummer #catherine schell #herbert lom #burt kwouk #peter arne #graham stark #david lodge #peter jeffrey #grégoire aslan #andré maranne #eric pohlmann #victor spinetti #john bluthal #mike grady #nadim sawalha #claire davenport #ok i've been watching these in a weird order. this was the first of the 70s films. more than a decade had passed since a shot in the dark #by this point united artists had no interest in a new panther film so lew grade stepped in after securing a complex deal with edwards that #would allow the director free reign to make two films in return for julie andrews (edwards wife) making a tv special for itc. it was grade #who actually pushed for one of the films to be a panther film. to his credit he seems to have thrown a lot of money at it. this is probably #the best looking in the series with lots of impressive location work. it's also truest to the original film in that the focus is split #fairly equally between clouseau and plummers sir charles. much of the robbery scenes and crime subplot are shot quite seriously and it #works. there's still some great comic moments. seller's business as the hotel repairman is wonderful and much of the hotel scenes are #comedy gold. schell is just lovely and makes the brilliant decision to have her character fully aware of how ridiculous clouseau is and to #spend much of their screentime stifling laughter. seller's old friends graham stark and david lodge are on hand to fill out the cast
