Glorfindel just froze after he had reflexively caught his balance from Mikhail’s shove. The violent gesture shouldn’t have been surprising, since it wasn’t exactly out of character for him even if it had been some time since his nose had been broken. Yet the shove had shot through him like a bucket of ice water had been dumped over his head.
He couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think as he waited for another blow.
It felt as though he had stood there for hours when he finally was able to take a short breath, and tried to hide his reaction behind a tight smile. “Right, sorry for startling you,” he said, hating the fact that his voice was shaking. “I’ll just leave then.”
Turning on his heel, he strode back to the main house without waiting to hear any response. Maybe if he took the right path he could make it back to his rooms before the panic he felt bubbling thorugh his veins. He just needed the world to leave him alone until he could manage to get his head on straight.
