In 1979 The Inter-American League was established, The League was conceived both as an official Triple-A minor league circuit and member of National Association of Professional Baseball League. It was composed of six teams unaffiliated with MLB farm systems. The 130-game schedule was planned, the 6 teams were the Miami Amigos, Caracas Metropolitanos (Venezuela), Panama Banqueros (Panama), Puerto Rico Boricuas (Puerto Rico), Petroleros de Zulia (Venezuela) and Santo Domingo Azucareros (Dominican Republic). Sadly after 51 games Panama folded and 4 games later Puerto Rico followed and after 72 games the League folded with the Amigos in first place with a record of 51-21 ten games ahead of the 2nd place team Caracas Metropolitanos. #MiLBMonday is for the 4 Lakeland Flying Tigers winners of 4 Florida State League Titles (1976, 1977, 1992 & 2012). Began as the Lakeland Indians in 1960 as the minor league affiliate of the Cleveland Indians the team became the Lakeland Giants in 1962 and in 1963 they became the Detroit Tigers farm team and changed it's name to Lakeland Tigers until 2007 when the team rebranded and became the Lakeland Flying Tigers in honor of Lakeland School of Aeronautics who stood on the actual grounds where their current field is built, the school trained over 8,000 pilots between 1940 and 1945 and some of them later flew with the "Flying Tigers" in #China during World War II.
