My 2 cents about the Stranger Things Final and why I hate fandoms since I have gotten older...
I really liked the final episode. I like the whole S5. Yeah some episodes had been weaker than others and yes there are some minor plot wholes. But all in all? It was sooo wholesome
It was the best outcome. Yes I feel bad about El. Even if I believe Mikes theory, its shitty. But it also makes total sense. This story is over. If she is still alive she can now live freely and without fear of beeing searched my the military.
Regarding Byler: since the beginning there was never even a hint on Mike having deeper feelings for Will. When Mike saw Eleven he fell for her hard.
Wills love for Mike is used as a reason for Vecna to choose Will. Beeing gay in the 80s sucked. People died: murdered, offed themselfs. Aids. I mean some people thought they would get aids if they touch a gay men. And there are really people out there saying it wasn't important?
I feel sad for the Byler Fans that didn't get their ending. Really. But you know what: take a minute and think how you wanted it to end and than write it down. Write your own story. That is what fanfiction is for. Share your headcanons with fellow shippers. Thats Fandome.
Fandome is not the hate that is spreading right now. And I say this as a person that had watched countless shows and let me tell you: more than once I was disappointed about a show final. And that is fair. Now one says you can't be sad about it. But common, you have loved that show for years and now, only because its not going like you wished it to go, you hate everything about it and hate everyone involved.
What really hit me: most of the people that hated S5 and especially the Final, didn't seem to get the easiest plot lines. I have rewatched the show before the final. Yes there are holes. I don't deny it. But also many things that people are now mad about had been just subtext. Things we interpreted into a scene because we have that one OTP and we would love to see it. But if you take a step back you will see that realistically it wouldn't have made sense and the "evidence" isn't so bullet proof as you maybe wish.
The whole coming out? I have read so many bad opinions about it.. whoa... Like, do people really think Will had wanted it to be like this and with all that people? And for real: he is explaining it why he is saying this. How much more do people need it to be broken down for them to understand?
Its feels like you have to spoon feed the people every decision that had been made because it feels most people are not able to think for themself or even relate to what is happening in the slightest.
(The ammount of people asking why Henry was affmraid of the cave is unbelievable...)
Dialogues: The one side isn't happy about the dialogues because yes they are shitty sometimes. But even the easiest and totally broken down dialogues seem to be too much for some people to follow.
D&D logic: ST is heavily a nerd show regarding D&D. The fight in the End? In Dimension X ? That was a typical D&D fight. And it amazes me that people didn't get it. That they are totaly out of it because Henry was suddenly too weak and the fight to fast over.
They had been a nat 20 together. (011+9) thats how it goes. Nat 20 and you have won.
The Final Fight: fucking Henry had been terrified. He had been fully out of it since he had stepped into that cave. Do you really wanna tell me that wouldn't affect you? Having to step into the walls that show your trauma bit by bit? I don't believe that.
Its fully logical that it will weaken him. Will still had reached out to Henry but what counts also here is: Henrys hate against the world that had been so unfair to him. That had treated him like a pest.
And they had to fight two fronts: Henry and Dr Kay! Its not like Dragonball where Namek is beeing destroyed in around 5 minutes and it will spreed out over 10 episodes (which is each 20 minutes long)
The "queerbaiting": what queerbating? Will is still gay. He didn't magically turned out to be straight in the end. As mentioned before: subtext. He is still gay, Robin is still a lesbian. She didn't magically had it hot for Steve or any other male all of a sudden. (I'm sad there wasn't more Robin/Vicky but the Epilogue also honored that if you listen and think about what is said)
There is still queer representation!
Pls remember its a 80s Si-Fi show no queer drama show. Yes representation is important but: that’s not the main theme. (At least not the relationships themself. Will being gay is a vital part of the story)
Yes sometimes the subtext is strong and yes sometimes we interpret it in favor for your OTP. But it dosn't mean its canon or it becomes canon. Queerbaiting is seeing two "queer" people flirt so heavy with each other and beeing in an "unoffical relationship " just to be told: "naw theiy're not queer" in the end and getting into straight relationship. (I just say BBC Sherlock)
So stopp hating on the actors or writers that had made such a fantastic show the last 9 years. The negativity that is all around since S5 started almost made me never watch it. I thought it would be the worst season ever.
And you know what? I fucking loved that season. The last time I had been in such an emotional turmoil about the destiny of a fictional character had been Avengers Endgame. I had cried for days after Tony Stark said this one sentence and snipped.
And pls for the love of god stop sending actors and writers and all involved ones death treats. (srly whats wrong with you guys)
I feel you. I feel your disappointment about certain things. You are allowed to be. But pls stopp making it worse. Stop fighting over ships. Stop hating on each other or the show in general that had brought a lot of people together.
And if you really think the writing had been that terrible (maybe since S3 or S4) why the hell did you still watch it? Just to hate it more? Are you so miserable? Or do you just like to rain on thers people parade?
I have seen several people Posting fics were the plot is that they kill the Duffer brothers because e.g. Byler didn't happen.
Pls get some help. Those are real people. How would you be feeling if I would write a story about how I'm going to kill you?
And also people beeing happy that "The duffer brothers" had been canceld on Netflix... because its "what they have earned" and"they deserve to be cancelled" (for similar reasons than the muder fics) I don't even know if this news is real or not. But dosn't matter for that point.
Get help, get a grip on the real world. Those people are humans with feelings and all, too. Actors also counting in here (whoa the massive backlash about Milli Bobby Browns look. Yeah great. Just keep making it worse for people.)
One word: Thats sick. Get help
As mentioned above: its only my 2 cents about the burning dumpster fire this fandome is. Or that general fandome culture had become. I hate everything about it and I hate social media.
Take from this rant what you want. If you wanna come after me now: have fun, I will make popcorn for it.
If you wanna talk like a adult about pros and cons you are welcome.
