Happy Valentine's Day to thiefshipping in particular!

Yesterday, I got myself a Valentine's Day gift, a tattoo of the Millennium Ring and Millennium Rod from Yu-Gi-Oh.

I've been going back and forth on wanting a Millennium Ring tattoo since I was a teenager. I was into Yu-Gi-Oh back then, then I dropped off of the series for over a decade.

During that time, I almost felt a sort of shame over how much I liked it. But when the pandemic came, I found myself gravitating back to Yu-Gi-Oh as a comfort show. I never thought I'd find it again, let alone fall as deeply into it as I was. Now, I like it even more.

I'm especially inspired by Bakura and Malik, the two villains who, for a very short time, formed an unlikely bond to save Malik's family. I like the idea that two damaged souls can come together and accept one another exactly as they are. (Even if they bicker like an old married couple. To me, that adds flavor.) The Millennium Rod and Millennium Ring belong to them.

Since then, Yu-Gi-Oh has inspired me to draw again, write again, and has brought me lasting friendships which I'll always cherish.

I also wanted this tattoo to remember Kazuki Takahashi, the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh, who brought people together with his series and the game it inspired. He passed away tragically while trying to save a young girl's life during a dangerous riptide. I'll forever miss him and adore what he created. For me, this is a reminder to never feel shame again about my love of this series.

A concept

Angstshipping (Marik and Ryou) but it's also both Marik and Ryou trying to cope with the loss of Yami Bakura.

Marik out of love and missing his partner in crime and Ryou out of trauma and not knowing how to live a normal life so they low-key sabotage their relationship sometimes.

And they both get angry over the past but will want to make it work.
