The greyish- white plate is covered with cracked glassy, transparent light-green glaze. Decorated with brown contoured transfer picture underglaze, handpainted in yellow, green and black scumble overglaze. (cr.)
William Stephen Coleman (1829–1904) was an influential English painter and book illustrator who served as a primary designer for Mintons during the 19th century. The maker's mark for the Aquarium series is one of Coleman's notable ceramic patterns.
