On three separate occasions over the last week, I've found myself literally in a skid or out of control--either in a car or on a road bike. 🚴🏼♀️💨 In each of these occasions, I immediately turned to this concept that I learned about during a Tony Robbins seminar: When in training, race car drivers are taught how to recover from a spin. In each case, the natural human instinct is to look towards the object we DON'T want to hit--be it the wall, the pole, etc. that we're careening towards. However, in training, the drivers are re-trained to look in the direction they DO want to go. All their movements then adjust to turn the vehicle in that direction, this realigning them on a safe course. And in each case, as I found myself on the verge of being out of control, I found myself looking where I DID want to go. It reminded me of what I need to do in my life as well: when things don't go my way, or I get off track with my goals... it's tempting to get caught up on where I don't want to go, and the accompanying limiting beliefs of "Ugh, I always do this." "I don't ever follow through." "I was foolish to believe I could actually accomplish that goal when I'm a serial procrastinator," etcetera. But instead, I'm reminded from these experiences to keep my eye on where I DO want to go--and why it IS possible. Then every part of me adjusts to bring me into alignment with that path, and my course self-corrects. One last thought--as I was biking yesterday morning, I was reminded of this quote from one of my favorite writers, Mary Baker Eddy: "[One] finds the path less difficult when she has the high goal always before her thoughts, than when she counts her footsteps in endeavoring to reach it. When the destination is desirable, expectation speeds our progress. The struggle for Truth makes one strong instead of weak, resting instead wearying one." I'm so grateful to be safe, and for the lessons I was granted over the past week. :) Just some thoughts for your day today. 😊 Have a great Thursday, y'all! #biking #roadbiking #vailpass #training #thoughts #mindset #mindsetThursday #ThursdayThoughts #goals #goalsetting #coursecorrection #visualization
