i finally watched the second episode of ahs: 1984 and here’s something i have to say:

Mine Games (2012) Review

Stop me if you’ve heard this before...A group of friends go on vacation in a cabin...They discover an abandoned mine nearby and get thrown into a deadly time loop.

Genres: Horror, psychological, ring film

I don’t think there’s an easy way to talk about this movie without spilling some spoilers. Like I said it’s got a time loop and that accounts for one of the plot twists. Yes I would say there’s more than one, though not all of them are particularly jaw dropping. The first half was fairly standard, feeling more like a remake of The Cabin In The Woods than something original, however I did find that from that point on it was pretty strong on it’s own.

What I liked: Cool visuals. Got really intense after the first plot twist. I was really invested at that point. A plot element I usually hate I felt wasn’t as bad as I first expected it to be. I found myself actually almost liking that element by the end, though I didn’t quite reach a point where I wouldn’t have changed that I still think overall I liked it with the other added plot elements. Likeable, characters and relationships.

What I didn’t like: Once the realization of how unoriginal and offended I was at the second plot twist, I was kind of disappointed. I really wanted to love this movie, and had my fingers crossed that the mental illness element wouldn’t be what it was, frankly it was and I would have loved something different in it’s place. It was pretty dark at times and difficult to see at times. As I’m sure I’ve said at least three times, it’s not terribly original in premise, plot twists, it had a lot of very common tropes.

Would I recommend? Yes! Despite it’s flaws I did enjoy it, though I probably wouldn’t watch it multiple times.
