Jikook: It’s more than just ‘serendipity’

I’ve been wanting to write about this topic for a while now, but I never had the courage to do so. While silently analyzing Jimin and Jungkook’s relationship (from a computer screen), I’ve struggled to find the words to explain why this pairing is so captivating to me. 

However, contrary to what many Jikookers will say, I don’t find Jimin and Jungkook’s relationship to be so convincing because of serendipity - the act of finding something beautiful without looking for it.

 By this, I’m not saying it’s not serendipity, because I genuinely think they found something beautiful (their relationship) without “planning” for it. Neither of them joined BH to be with each other, right? It was a beautiful coincidence. But, in my opinion, Jikook’s relationship is more than just fate, and let me elaborate on that. 

Quick disclaimer before I start: This will not be based on factual evidence, since I don’t know BTS personally. I am not, in any way, confirming that Jikook is real. These are my opinions only and are based on observation. We don’t personally know what goes on with them privately, but we admire and support their bond. 

With that out of the way, I would like to tell you my personal perspective on love. I don’t consider myself an idealistic person. Far from that, I tend to see things with realism, including love. So, for me, the whole narrative of “fate” and “soulmates” is just not appealing. I don’t judge people who do think the universe has picked someone to be our eternal lover, but I don’t personally share that viewpoint. 

So, when I got into the fandom, and more specifically into Jikook, I was mesmerized by the overwhelming amount of “coincidences” that were not coincidences at all. The one that stuck out to me the most was the fact that they came from the same city. I don’t know why, but it really resonated with me. 

Now, being the realist I am, that was not enough. I was genuinely interested in knowing how their relationship dynamics worked outside from the whole “fate” narrative. And then, it clicked. After observing them for almost three years now, I realized why this ship in particular is so special to me. 

I’ve always seen love as a decision, not a fixed outcome regardless of the situations around you. Love is not an isolated emotion - it’s literally affected by everything in your life; your work, your family, your friends, your interests, everything. You don’t just wake up one day and love someone unconditionally. You have to know someone, accept their flaws, have a certain amount of interest in what the other person likes, and also have to know their innermost circles. It takes A LOT of work to start loving someone and have a stable relationship that can overcome all challenges. 

Now, imagine Jikook in that case. You’re not just destined to be with someone because that’s how things are supposed to work out. No, they both would’ve DECIDED to love each other despite all things against them - the ‘bad’ reputation, their careers, the other members, their families, and even their own culture. That’s a lot of things that can destroy a relationship that’s only based on love for the sake of destiny. 

Jimin and Jungkook - if they are a couple - they both had to decided to face the consequences of their romance, and that’s just the most convincing piece of the puzzle. Yes, they found each other, and it was not a coincidence. But their love is not just serendipity. They keep cultivating that love, and the love only grows with combined efforts. 

Yes, I love soulmates aus and whatnot, but I can only IMAGINE how hard it is on a daily basis for them to face any type of backlash. Nevertheless, we keep seeing more instances and tiny glimpses of how much they love each other. And even if it wasn’t a romantic relationship, the fact that they DECIDED to show their love so blatantly in front of us just makes it 1000% more compelling. 

Next time you think about Jikook and their bond, remember that not only the universe wants them together, but THEY also decided to be together. Isn’t that beautiful in itself?

Not that we need another reason to be sad BUT we all know that Aunt May found out Peter was Spiderman at the end of HOCO, so can you imagine how scared she must have been when she saw the spaceship in the sky and couldn’t get a hold of Peter? So she calls Tony because of course he’d be the first person to handle an alien threat, and he always seems to know where Peter is anyway, but she can’t get a hold of Tony either. She’s going out of her mind waiting for a scrap of news, hoping against all logic that Tony and Peter just got distracted by some project in the lab, when the news anchor officially announces Tony Stark as missing. And, of course, she knows that wherever he is, Peter’s probably right beside him. So she waits it out, trusting Tony will get her kid out of this safely because he always has before, but Peter never comes home. Even when Tony does, even when half of her friends have dropped off the face of the planet and the world has turned to chaos, Peter doesn’t come home. And all Tony Stark can say to her is that he’s sorry he put Peter in danger.
