Been working on a rail system for my forever world for a while now and it was… bad.
It had a setup where if you wanted to swap the tracks you had to push the button to change it as you were moving. And that sucked. Easy to miss.
Now of course you can make a T-Junction that will stop the cart and automatically switch the track depending on what button you press. That’s been around for years.
However, that design is large (about 7x5x11 blocks) and would not intigrate into my world where all my rails are up on single width walls.
So I’ve come up with this design based on some tutorials I saw online and refined it for my purpose. This design isn’t automatic, but it works for my needs and now maybe your needs too!
The way it works is simple. The 3 power rails stop the cart on a hill so that when you push the button and activate the rail, momentum pushes the cart forward.
The light hovering over the track has a switch on the underside that you can reach when the cart comes to a stop. You flip the switch to change the track for the direction you want to go.
And finally the detector rail will activate the powered rail when you pass over it, so the powered rails won’t stop you as you move through the opposite side of the junction.
So with this setup, you ride the rails, come to a stop at the junction, flip the switch for whatever direction you want to go, push the button which activates the powered rail, you pass through the junction, hit the detector rail on the opposite side which activates the powered rail allowing you to smoothly continue on without issues.
Aside from the button you need to push to continue your journey, this entire setup is 1 block wide on all rail pathways, making it super compact.
I so badly want to create a video essay about Minecraft elytras.
It starts off talking about the downsides to elytras. Then, the video shifts to talking about how neglected other forms of transportation are.
This is when the hbomberguy bait and switch occurs. Now, it starts talking about how private transportations has completely fucked so many parts of our lives and late stage capitalism is the cause behind it.
You know you’re a minecraft boomer when you go out of your way to use minecarts instead of elytra/horses. I played back in beta and remember when boats were unusable, horses didn’t exist, and flying was a mod.
Wait, you can switch the direction of Minecart rails using levers?
We should be able to link Minecarts together using chains.
i know what i said in my previous post, but i was able to record some clips a few days ago, and going over one match....this was way too good to hold off on
“We were supposed to go to Nuka World and then Coronavirus came and who knows when it will be open again? I wanted to ride the mine carts!!”
