I think when it comes to Minecraft features I want I’m pretty tame. I don’t really care about huge massive updates or overhauls the way some people do. I am not clamoring for an End Update or a new Nether Update or whining about Elytra or wasted potential or whatever.
I’ve got like…. 2 things I actually want. And that’s it.
1. I want chiseled bookshelves to display the names of books on the shelf if you hover your courser over them.
Because putting a book on the shelf just turns on or off the preexisting texture, it’s virtually impossible to tell what book is on the shelf unless you actively take it down and hold it in your inventory. And I’m sorry but that’s not how libraries and bookshelves should work. I can’t make a working library in Minecraft because there’s no way to browse what’s on the shelves easily.
2. I want a classic terrain biome.
I don’t need new textures or anything. Grass is already color variable, so just give me a neon colored grass by adjusting the color values in the game like they do with other areas. Don’t have tall grass growing anywhere, have sand and gravel on the beaches at all times. Have weird hills and floating islands.
I just LOVE this idea so much. I miss old terrain generation and it would be so cool to just be wandering around the Minecraft world with its new mountains and biomes and then suddenly you enter a valley that is uncannily retro in its design. After wandering through all the updated landscapes with leaves and grass and features, entering this area would feel… other worldly. And bare. And simple.
And it would just be like… a biome. So it wouldn’t interfere with the rest of the game, you’d have to go hunt it down and find it like mushroom biomes. It wouldn’t need any new textures, just a slight adjustment on the grass and water color charts so they’re more vibrant.
I just think that Minecraft is 15 years old now and we should think about connecting new players with the past in an unobtrusive way. Bring back some of that old school horror vibes. Heck, maybe have the fog in this biome crank up to 11 so it feels like the low render distance of beta Minecraft like they do with the Pale Gardens.
That’s all I really want. I don’t need anything fancy. Just quality of life changes and nostalgia for the original terrain. That would make me SO happy.
