I should be thinking of things for the big bang and instead I'm chewing on this again. Anyway.
Loop One: Grian is messing with fireworks, sets one off near Scar, Scar dies. Grian feels like shit and lives the rest of the day wishing he could go back and undo it.
Loop Two: Grian realizes this is the Same Day pretty quickly and recognizes it as the chance to undo his mistake. When it gets to the event with the fireworks, he does not play with them (and does not notice that Scar avoids the spot he'd been in before when he'd died). Scar, apon Not Dying, gets curious abt the fireworks that killed him and goes go mess with them himself. Blows himself up. Grian feels bad about it still.
Loop Three: Grian recognizes the day has repeated again. Already kinda guesses it's because that guy he killed the first time still died. Figures he's probably got to keep him alive. Scar meanwhile is laughing at himself for getting himself killed the second time. He hasn't registered Grian as part of the loop. They get to the event, Grian does not play with the fireworks and introduces himself to Scar so he can keep Scar away from the fireworks. Unfortunately, Scar, who originally had no plan to mess with the fireworks, finds it really funny that this stranger is insisting he doesn't mess with the fireworks, and so he messes with the fireworks and blows himself up.
Loop Four: Grian is realizing that this might be harder than he thought. This time he's going to go with the tactic of indirectly keeping Scar away from the fireworks but not actually directly telling him to stay away. Scar, after waking up and laughing at himself again, recognizes Grian this time around and also realizes that, unlike everyone else, Grain's behavior is different. Through this observation he realizes that Grian is trying to make sure he doesn't go near the fireworks. Scar goes "wouldnt it be funny if-" and goes to mess with the fireworks. Blows himself up. It should be noted he is still not intending to blow himself up, he's only intending to play with the fireworks, he just manages to find a new way to fuck it up every time.
Loop Five: Grian is officially frusterated, Scar is once again laughing at himself but decides, okay, he's kind of sick of the death loop, he's not going to mess with the fireworks. Unfortunately, Grian's plan this time around is to hide the fireworks. Scar ends up accidentally finding them and blowing himself up again. Grian yells about it.
Loop Six: they both go to the event again. Scar keeps a very careful distance from the fireworks. Grian spends the whole time sitting next to the fireworks with full plans to tackle Scar should he get near. When the event ends and the fireworks go off without a hitch, both believe the loop is over. As Scar is leaving though, Grian watches him fall through a manhole cover and die. Grian realizes this is going to be harder than just keeping him safe from fireworks.
Loop Seven: Scar laughs at himself again. Plans to not walk over the manhole cover and continues about his day as he did before. When Grian offers to walk him home, Scar remembers Grian from loops three and four and, with Grian now doing this, puts it together that Grian is 1. Aware of the loop and 2. Trying to keep Scar alive and 3. Unaware that Scar is aware of the loop. All the set up to some really funny pranks (if traumatizing the same guy over and over again counts as a prank). When Grian tries to steer Scar away from the manhole, Scar steers himself back to it and dies. Grian spends a solid five minutes staring at the manhole while the people around him call 911.
Loop Eight: New Plan! Grian instead once again introduces himself to Scar during the event and gets to know things about him like his phone number and where he lives. He memorizes this information. Scar plays along, a bit dissapointed when Grian doesn't offer to walk him home again and figures, alright, guess my fun is over. He doesn't walk over the manhole. Grian notices but assumes it's a butterfly effect thing from him talking to Scar all day. Grian decides to tail Scar and so gets first hand witness as Scar, assuming he's free from the loop now, finds a birds nest and tries to look in it. The mamma bird gets mad and starts swooping at him, causing him to stumble back into the street and get hit by a car. Grian's hypothesis that this man will find any possible way to die is confirmed.
Loop Nine: Grian wakes and immediately books it to Scar's house. Desperate times call for desperate measures. He's going to lock that man in his own house. Scar lives in a very high up apartment and when he tries to leave and finds the door blocked and Grian on the other side insisting he stay inside, Scar is vaguely mad about this. How Dare Grian try to trap him in his own house. He's learned his lesson, he's not going to play with fireworks or walk over manholes or look into birds nests. So, he decides to try to sneak out of his own window. Falls and dies. Grian marks that plan yet another failure.
