I just saw your post about the freestyle libre, I was diagnosed with T1D a year and a half ago and just started the minimed 670g (so far I love it!) but I was really intrigued by your post - could you tell me more about it??? Also, you're gorgeous and I hope you have a wonderful day!
Thanks! The freestyle libre is a flash glucose monitoring system. So you wear a sensor that looks like the little white button on my arm. It has a painless insertion device to get it stuck to you. Doesn’t hurt at all. Then there’s a receiver / glucometer. It’s a small gadget that you can put in your pocket or purse and whenever you want, you just wave the meter by the sensor and it picks up your bg reading immediately and displays a graph of your bg. Easy peasy.
So it’s not like a CGM like Dexcom in the way that a Cgm reads your bg constantly and gives you alerts. The libre is called “flash” bc it quickly scans your bg only every time you deliberately wave the receiver by the sensor. So you do have to “check” your bg, it’s just easier and painless.
The libre can be worn for 10 days (longer in the UK) so you’d be using 3/month. It does have a high cost so you’ll need to make sure it’s affordable and mostly covered by your insurance. The 3 pack I got was ~$70 compared to $0 out of pocket for Dexcom. So all in all I do love it. I did miss the alerts at times like sleeping so I still use Dexcom but once I get my bg in better control, is like to explore using the Libre exclusively. Let me know if you have more questions and sorry for the delayed response💙💙💙
