Pharmacology/Pharmacokinetics: Minocycline is a tetracycline antibiotic which prevents protein synthesis by competitively binding to the 30S ribosomal subunits of bacteria. Bacteriostatic at normal dosage ranges. Peak plasma levels are reached in 1-4 hours with a half-life of 15 hours. Concomitant administration with food including dairy products effects rate but not the amount of absorption.
Drug Interactions: May impair the action of bactericidal antibiotics. May impair the systemic absorption of oral contraceptives. May increase the bioavailability of digoxin. Absorption impaired by aluminum, bismuth, calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron salts, and urinary alkalizers. Concomitant use with METHOXYFLURANE may produce nephrotoxicity.
Contraindications/Precautions: Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any tetracycline. Do not use in children under 8 years of age (during tooth development), in pregnancy and lactation, and in patients with impaired renal function. Rare cases of benign intracranial hypertension have occurred in patients taking tetracyclines. Secondary infections of Clostridium difficile have been reported in almost all antibacterial agents, including minocycline. Pregnancy Category D.
Adverse Effects: Dizziness, vertigo, nausea, emesis, diarrhea, discoloration of forming teeth, sore or darkened tongue, cramps, or burning stomach. Studies to date have indicated that minocycline HCl rarely cause photosensitivity reactions.

intro
soooo. hello. hi. how are you? I hope you’re doing well.
I just wanted to make a quick post introducing myself.
my name’s cath and I’m 16 and I have been struggling with acne since I was about 12. It’s mostly my bad genes (both my parents and their brothers and sisters had ance) that cause it or so I believe. I have moderate to severe acne but it mostly depends on the time period. I have been on medication for my acne several times and specifically minocin. I have now stopped and will begin again on August 19th. my dermatologist has prescribed me a couple of creams but I think I’ll make a separate post about that.
hopefully this will all go well but knowing my bad luck it’s highly unlikely lol
(also, yes, john watson as my icon bc I’m trash and he’s grumpy like me)
I've been off the minocin since Sunday...without consulting my dermatologist first. Actually without consulting him at all this entire time. The acne is slowly coming back (although that could be for another reason) but you know what? I'll take it over being literally allergic to the sun. When he said "your skin is going to be sensitive to the sun" I thought he meant I would burn easier, so I understood wearing sunscreen. He never mentioned the possibility of breaking out in an uncomfortably itchy rash 5 minutes after the sun touches my skin (even with sunscreen on), so for that reason, I guess I'm done with minocin until the sun and being outside doesn't matter to me or I can be fully covered...so maybe I'll try again in November/December. That being said, since being off of it, I'm getting to sleep at a time that's more normal for me, and I'm sleeping better and longer because I'm not getting up to go to the bathroom every hour. Is it disappointing that it didn't work for me right now? Yes. I was actually seeing results from it. But it wasn't worth losing sleep and always being thirsty and not being able to go outside at all until the sun goes down. (Still on the aldactone though, however I'm not really sure what it does on its own)
Sporting a pretty pink blotchy rash all over my chest and face even though I wore the same spf I've been wearing for the entire time I've been on these meds I'm THRILLED.
So…has anyone else experienced insomnia as a result of taking aldactone or minocycline? I’m just as wide awake now at 5:24 AM as I was at 3 pm yesterday.
And please tell me it goes away once your body gets used to the meds because I don’t think I can handle 59 more nights of no sleep.
So this is weird. I'm taking an antibiotic called minocycline and it's doing strange things to my taste buds. I had a funny taste in my mouth so I decided to eat a spoonful of sugar to get rid of it. The sugar had no taste. I thought maybe it was some off-brand or cheap brand of sugar, so I tried some cinnamon cereal. The cinnamon was extremely bitter, and the sugar was also non-existent. Finally I had some chocolate milk, thinking at least milk would get rid of these weird tastes. The milk tasted bitter also. I don't even know what to think now. I think I've lost my sense of sweet taste.
You know what's embarassing?
Adult acne. Oh no wait... lifetime acne haha
I know, it's such a silly little problem. But I hate make-up, it's ugly and it hurts. My face is on fire.
I used to be on Minocin (Minocycline) and I'm going to the doc today to see what he recommends. Because I'm a 14 year old boy trapped in a woman's body. I swear.
Has anyone tried Accutane?
